Is having "the best goalie in the world" overrated?

I'd say yes.

Mostly because the top 10 of goalies are very close to each other, and most teams these days have a plausible starter. Difference between the "best goalie in the world" and a decent starter isn't that big.

Just the fact that said top 10 changes every year. Most goalies in the league are capable of an elite season, and even the best goalie in the world (Price?) can't play like the best all the time.

If we had a goalie who you could bank on to be amazing every single night and clearly the best, then yeah, that would be a big advantage. But like we've seen in the playoffs the player most of us call the best goalie in the world (or even top 3) usually isn't the guy who has the hottest run.

I guess what im trying to say is, if you got the team to win, all you really need is a guy who can get the job done. It doesn't necessarily have to be the most spectacular goalie performance, and often great team defense makes goalies look better anyway.
