Eric has 23 points in 25 games and is leading the wild in scoring. Is Eric Staal Eric Staal Again? He really has made a good comeback.

I want this to be an all purpouse Eric Staal Thread Eventually, But Let's Just Talk About This For Now

Crazy how in that stretch where NYR acquired him as a rental, he looked like he was done. Then signs with minny and looks great.

Great players find ways to be great even after some difficult seasons. Staal is great and has been for a long time now.

He was underrated in his prime and is now underrated past his prime. Great player.

Quite a few maligned 1C's have rebounded this year in fact.

Tavares: 28 points in 24 games
Giroux: 28 points in 25 games
MacKinnon: 28 points in 23 games
Kopitar: 28 points in 26 games

I'd say that last year's 28 goal, 65 point season made him Eric Staal again.

He probably should be a future hall of famer.... Will most likely hit 500 goals and 1000 points to go along with stanley cup and gold medal

0.82 PPG in 116 games for Wild. Such a great signing. He and Nino are so effective together below the dots.

If only they had Kaprizov to complete that line and Top 9...

Is he wallowing around the ice, moping after every bad play, and dogging it in all 3 zones? That would be "Eric Staal being Eric Staal".

So glad to see he is finally giving some effort. He was such a lazy dumpster fire (making $9+ million a year) on the Canes that they didn't even offer him a contract.

I wanted Detroit to sign him so bad, I thought it was ridiculous how everyone was writing him off when he only had one bad year. He is super consistent, and a steal for the Wild.

I wanted him on The Bruins as I always thought he still had more in the tank. Really glad he's found his groove again in Minnesota.

I thought he would be the worst signing of his free agency class. I expected him to get a huge contract and continue to decline. Turned out to be a hell of a signing.

He's not a hall of famer. He definitely could've been but he just spent to many years where he really wasn't all that relevant. Too much success too early on it seems.

This is correct. The Eric Staal that's currently producing for Minnesota isn't the default Eric Staal. It's the one that only showed up when he had something to prove, a time that rarely happened in Carolina.

Outside of that, dude was just half-assing it game after game.

He doesn't have a frenetic, go for it type style, so he might appear to be lazy. The Big M had some similarities...was criticized constantly for being lazy, and was much faster than he looked.
Staal isn't a speed demon at this point, but he is surprisingly fast. His shoot first style has been a godsend for the Wild.

Maybe, after Vanek, anybody looks motivated.

He has always been a very solid 2way player. His offensive numbers are pretty good considering he plays on a team known as a defensive team.
