Chatting to people who I hope are better at reading the cap than I am. They say the max for trading a buyout is $5 million dollars. Would you be ok with Poile tranding a 5 million dollar contract buyout for a 1st?

Do you mean, for example, taking Montreal's first in exchange for taking on Gomez? Like a reverse of what we did with Lombardi? Could we afford it?

Apart from the could-we-even-consider-it question, I think it would depend on (a) how long the contract is and (b) where in the draft that first is going to be. Top 5, absolutely. Maybe even top 10 given that this year's draft is deep. Below that, not so much.

I wouldn't be, but we've got 3 up here already. :)

$5m for a buyout seems extremely low to me. Most of the contracts being looked at are at least into double digits.

If it's a top 5 or maybe a top 10 pick then maybe, other then that no. You'd basically be paying 5mill. plus the top prospect 3.5 that could be pretty hefty.
