So, I'm super bored and it's only a matter of time all the arm chair GM's put in for next years roster (couldn't find a thread on this so...).

Based on the cap going up and what we need today... this is what I dreamt up - yes, it's not realistic - so before you flame away, take it with a grain of salt.

I traded Simmonds to BUF for Psysk and a pick I guess (I'd rather have Simmonds than Hartnell - but again don't think he will waive his NMC).... and I don't think anyone would take Striet so I left him....
Signed Girardi
Signed Vanek
Signed Khubodin

I actually thinks it's looks pretty good... except for the cap hits of Vanek and Giradi. Vanek will get $7.5m somewhere and Giradi will get at least $4m.

I really like Khudobin as a backup.

Would love to Have girardi on this team. Would much rather have him on a 4.5 million a year deal than streit.

Not really a huge priority, but if we have Laughton and Raffl on the 4th line, I'd like to upgrade on Rinaldo. Someone like McGinn could be a good option there.

Two years for Boyle would be OK by me.

Me too if he even makes it to free agency. Despite his personality issues his first time here, I could see Homer signing Pitkanen with few options available or resigning Timonen for too much if he doesn't retire.

Scrivens as a backup would be interesting. I assume Phaneuf will be resigned before free agency.

Pitkanen

Would not surprise me if Homer signed a player that missed an entire year to a serious injury

Vanek is going to get 8 mill on the open market. If he is signed, someone will go through trade. Giradi will get 5.5 I think. If we do sign Giradi though, we could trade Coburn for a pretty return to say the oilers!

All of your lineups better not lack a certain cherry hill native either. BOBBY RYAN!!

With Ottawa floundering (even tho they just beat us) and so inconsistent I believe Bobby Ryan is still an option... I don't care how much he says he loves it in Ottawa, I think deep down he would love to come home. We all know his personal ties to the organization and it just lines up too perfectly for Homer not to pursue him.

Too bad Hartnell and Lecavalier have those NMC. Would be nice to be able to trade one or both of them and maybe a pick for Ryan. Also I could see Simmonds and a pick or two being traded for him. I could see him being traded in the offseason for some players locked up long term if he indicates to Ottawa that he will likely test free agency the following offseason.

What do you trade for Ryan though?

Laughton, 1st, + another young player/prospect would have to be the offer.

Maybe they'd be interested in Coburn, but then we'd have to replace a top 4 defenseman.

If they don't want futures then they probably won't be looking to move Ryan.

But What would be the point for Ottawa? The only reason to move him is if you think you can't resign him, in which case he'd be moved either at the deadline next year, or next offseason (negotiating rights). Unless I'm wrong about when his contract ends.

If they think they can't win now they're probably going to move Spezza and not Ryan. If they think they can win now, they're not going to move Ryan.

Armchair GM thread where people can do what they want, but there are still some with Rinaldo and Rosehill on the roster? What? If I was doing this I would get rid of both somehow someway.

Vanek is likely to hit free agency as the Islanders suck hardcore, he's primed for a big deal, and he's probably tired of being on crappy teams by now. Between the big contract he's likely to get and the fact that he's not the type of player I want on a big deal I don't want him. The guy's scoring ability gets hyped up and while it is true that he's a quality goal scorer he's a better version of Matt Moulson for all intents and purposes. Not a good two-way player and seems to have a reputation for being a liability when not scoring. On it's own that's not a problem, but I already feel like our entire top six is like that to some degree and our top six is our biggest problem right now.

That lineup look pretty solid. I would love to get Ekblad and the draft is in Philly this year, so who knows maybe Homer will be in a rash mood.

My only problems are that Gaborik will probably go for 6.5 at the least on the open market. If Mason can continue his stellar play, he will be asking for at least 4.5.

But, I would be ecstatic if this were to happen.

Orange is betters line up looks pretty good but I'd rather re sign Downie for cheaper than sign. Callahan for nearly 5 mil to be on our 3rd line. I do like the idea of signing Gaborik though. We could use someone with his kind of speed and shot. I'd also keep Adam Hall. He's been solid all year. I could live without Kris Russell as well. I'd rather leave that spot open for someone younger.
