Inline skates that are too long

I have Powerslide Zoom Pro 100 mm inline skates which I love. I used them for casual roller hockey yesterday and they were brilliant. But they interfere with hockey pads, and they’re heavy. I’d like some Reign hockey skates which also have three 100 mm wheels and a short frame. Unfortunately they fit narrow and my feet are wider than average.

So, my normal size is EU 41. If I buy Reign skates in EU 43, and the width is perfect, with a good heel lock, but there is 20 mm space at the front, is this a problem? Let’s assume my feet don’t slide about.

Any feedback including foot length and width from Reign skaters would be brilliant.

Not a Reign skater, but in general: the major issue with having skates too large is that your foot has room to slide. That creates blisters, affects your skating technique, and can even lead to ankle injuries.

If the foot isn't sliding, then there's not as much of an issue. Theoretically it could impact your balance, but the difference would be negligible. If your foot is locked in, it should be fine. However, I would want to be absolutely sure they are really not sliding before I took that risk.

A few years ago I was broke and skated in a pair of Missions that were 2 sizes up from my normal Foot Size, cuz I got them for free.

My feet would slide and shimmy a little bit, I had to tie them really tight. Overall, it worked but it was pretty stressful.

I had to expend more energy simply maintaining balance at rest and my stride wasn’t as efficient as it was in properly fitted skates. Basically I had to work harder in them.

Thicker socks and after-market footbed alleviated some of the stress.

My experience is it will probably work and you’ll pronably be able to skate And not risk injury but you won’t be as comfortable as you would in your normal fit.

Thanks. In the end I bought Bauer x2.9 inlines skates, and I love them. Glad I did. The stock wheels are really fast too. It seems that Reign inline hockey skates never really took off.

Yeah, I am a pretty big Inline guy and I've never heard of them. I am in the US and it looks like they're a German company. I've never seen any of their products in any of my LHS's.
