I believe he is one of the fastest skaters in the draft and can potentially be an offensive force.

Lead the BCHL in scoring while playing for the Penticton Vees. Was named rookie of the year in the interior conference. Helped the US win the World Junior A Challenge registering 4-1-5 in 5 games. Named top forward at the CJHL Prospects Game. The reason he is on the rise so much is in the last 15 games in the BCHL regular season when team captain and leagues leading scoring went down with an injury Beau stepped up and lead the team scoring at nearly a 3 ppg clip. Known as PP specialist, he only managed to average .9 ppg in playoffs. Still, he is a player to watch, a team could have an absolute steal grabbing this guy in the late first round.

stats are close but turris was on a team that he was the star. the vees are a pretty stacked team so that helped his stats a lot. turris was also much better in his own end and was not a late birthday. bennett needs a ton of work in his own end which is why he will need 2-3 years in college and a year in the AHL. The could end up being a star but the team who takes him will have to wait on him. I will have him ranked 20-30 in my rankings

I've never seen him play but I don't think he got a lot of respect heading into this season because last year he played on the same LA Jr Kings team as Shane McColgan so he was overlooked a bit.

I'm loving that California is starting to produce 1st round talents consistently now.

This is ture, Turris only had 1 more point in 3 less games in their draft years. Bennett is a late birth year technically making it his 18 year old season while Turris was in his 17 year old season. Turris also scored 66 goals that year with only 27 of them being powerplay. Bennett scored 41 this year and 25 on the powerplay. So that gives Turris 39 even strength goals and Bennett only 16. When you factor in that Turris played on a much weaker Express team than Bennett's Vees and the fact that Turris lead his team to an RBC Championship as a 16 year old, capturing the MVP honours in the process you get a little bit of an idea of why Turris was more highly regarded. The '07 draft was also no where near as good as this draft in which Turris most likely wouldn't have even cracked the top 5.

I watched Bennett a few times this season... He did absolutely nothing in the games I went to.
He did take one wrist shot from the blue line that almost went through the boards though...

You could tell he had skills that the other guys around him didn't have... plus good size, but I wanted to see him light up the opposition and it didnt happen... I'm a fan of his obviously b/c I like the Vees...

I'd argue that Turris needed 2-3 years in college and a year in the AHL, too.

From what I've heard/ read he has the potential to be Andrei Markov, but a bit bigger and tougher.

Though, a potential he could very well reach is a poor man's Timmonen.

I have him in at 21st on my final rankings. Being 6'1" and one of the fastest skaters in the draft and played in a somewhat unproven league. Hmmm who does that remind me of.. I'll go with Chris Kreider although Kreider is already built a little stronger.

Just to add on to what everyone else is saying, Bennett has his fair share of criticisms for his ES play. A large amount of his points are on the PP and for a guy with such a wide array of tools in a league like the BCHL, he should have no problem flat out dominating.

Also, I wouldn't really consider him a riser, as he's been on most scouts late 1st radar since December. If anything, I think he's dropped a bit in many scouts eyes as most scouting rankings have seen him drop to the second round as of late. Where he goes will be a testament to that teams junior A scouting. With Kyle Turris struggling thus far, scouts are creeping away from scouting based on precedence (Not to say Turris was a precedence pick) with junior A players. Expect a team like Carolina (Who has drafted 2 Penticton Vee's and a number of minor junior players lately) to go for Bennett. Some of his question marks will likely cause some scouts to shy away from him, especially those scouts who don't spend much time watching junior A hockey.

for ottawa to be considering him at 16, either they are planning on trading down, or bennett is going to rise about 15 spots on draft day.

I'm a little hesitant personally drafting this high out of the BCHL. The league is much weaker then the NCAA and CHL...

Usually players in NCAA either A. Drafted B. Late Birthdate Draft Eligible C. In their 2nd year of draft eligibility/Late Bloomers D. Players with very little pro potential

The BCHL is the stepping stone to the NCAA/WHL. I understand the hesitation though with the depth of the league weaker, but I believe the BCHL and the AJHL are the better two Tier II Junior Leagues in Canada
