Wilsby (3) lobbed one in over Daccord. The Ads scored one like that in Game 4.

Maybe that is a weak spot for Daccord?

It 3-2 CV early in period 3. Egor got the assist, his 7th.

At 4:10 Thompson gets 2 minutes for a High Stick. CV is 0-18 on the PP.

Cooley with the save, 1:28 left in the PK. The puck hit the crossbar and landed on top of the net.

CV scored at 5:20, a wrister from the slot. Now it is 4-2 CV. CV is 2 of 20 on the PP in the series.

SOG: 4-2 CV, same as the score.

High Sticking against Jankowski at 7:49.

Sherwood (4) assisted by Del Gaizo (8) and Tomasino (7) at 11:15 of the third period. Now 4-3 CV.

SOG: 5-4 CV.

2:36 left, Cooley on the bench. Ads passing a lot. 1:54 left and the puck goes out of the zone.
Kemell dumps the puck into the O-zone. Icing against CV, 1:12 left. CV with 8 shots in periods 2 and 3 combined. The officials blew the whistle. Petman closed his hand on the puck. Ads with a 6-on-4. CV stalling at their bench. It is 1:12 left again. Ads lose the face off, 1 minute to go. Daccord went for a goal and missed, no icing.

Face off by the Ads blue line, 37 seconds left.Vange is guarding the goal. Sherwood to Sanford to Vange. McKeown's shot deflected out of play. 2.3 seconds remaining. The officials are talking as the CV pig fans threw debris on the ice! Vange shoots and the clock runs out. CV 4-3 in a "chippy, mean series" according to Aaron Sims. Fell a goal short in Game 6.

The teams shook hands. CV was 26-7-1-2 at home, the best in the AHL. They win the WCF in their first season in the AHL. They will play the Hersey Bears for the Calder Cup.

Another one goal loss. Ads just couldn't quite get over the hump.in either of the last two games. Not scoring on the late PP stings

Of course there is plenty of room to debate whether Askarov would have won tonight's game but it doesn't matter, because he didn't play and that's Taylor's decision to live with.

Still a great season for the Ads. Gonna be loaded again next year, too.

Seems like a fair result. On paper, CV has a ton of talent and experience. On the ice, it sounds like they brought an old-school physical playoff mentality that our team just wasn't ready to match. And if Leonard, Schneider, and Gross were in fact injured, then that's 3 pretty significant players out of the Ads lineup. Great season for the Ads!

I think Evangelista is ready, and as much grief as I gave Tomasino early, he did have a much better series against CV. As many have mentioned Kemmel has an outside chance to be in Nashville next year, but that would be so far ahead of schedule that it would be surprising to me. If Taylor is around again next year I have zero concern with letting these guys play heavy AHL minutes. That being said, Milwaukee is going to be fun next year. Add a Svechkov, Schaeffer, and L'Heureux in that mix and you have a lot of talent. Nashville is going to be competitive with hungry young guys fighting for a spot, but if any of these young guys in Milwaukee think they are going to have a spot waiting for them...well there's going to be someone standing behind them ready to take it.

I think kemell should probably start in the AHL but like Evangelista appears to be on the fast track to NHL time. I think with the way they played in the NHL at the end of the season and the AHL during the season, Tomasino and Evangelista should start in the NHL. I dont know if they will both be top 6 but with Brunette im expecting to see three attack lines and hopefully a fast skilled 4th line with some grit. Afanaseyev might be a good choice for that.

Milwaukee is gonna be fun next season. Might have to get AHL.tv so i can watch all the games. Svechkov, Burke, Kemell, L'Heureux, Schaefer, Askarov, Del Gaizo, Wilsby, Stastney is a good crop of young player to fill out the top lines, pairings, and goal.

I half expect Taylor to be named as an assistant NHL coach somewhere in the next few days
I hope you are right because i think he has earned it... but also hate to lose him as i think he has done well with the fellas in Milwaukee

I was most impressed with the improvement I saw in Afanasyev. I haven't watched last night's game yet but he really came alive in the playoffs and was a factor in every game I watched. His 11 points in 16 games (.7 ppg) during the playoffs are impressive considering he has 26 in 57 games during the regular AHL season (.46 ppg).

I mean, we didn't know what Kemell had in him so that was a bit of a pleasant surprise. Evangelista and how Tomasino finished were good to see and promising signs. But, that jump in production and shear on ice value for Afanasyev is spectacular. Maybe he still does have more in him than big bodied 4th line grinder in NHL, maybe he a bit of a late bloomer and we'll start to see the reasons he was taken in the second round.

I feel like most of us had kind of written him off a bit so if he can push for a bigger role in the organization and earn a spot out of camp this year it would be a tremendous bonus.

I wouldn't say I wrote Afanaseyev off, but I did think that we were going to have to watch for that blossoming next year in Milwaukee with our fingers crossed instead of getting it peeking out in the playoffs already.

Possibly that is one advantage of having Schneider and Leonard out (and Nurmi gone off to wherever)... we already knew Tomasino and Evangelista would play big roles in the playoffs, but perhaps this helped elevate Afanaseyev and Kemell's roles a bit too. At least out of the gate. To the point where they could run with the extra responsibility and keep running.

Those Chistyakov numbers are really really strong. It sucks he's developed so well and we will likely never see him. I think he'd be a middle pairing type guy that would fit really well at this point.

For him to emerge as a top D on a good KHL team at 21 is definitely a nice development. Who knows what our defense will look like in 2026. McDonagh's contract will have finished. Also Lauzon. Hard to believe but there will only be 2 years left on Josi's by that time! (and with his concussion history, who knows). Maybe having a guy who is already a big star in the KHL being able to jump immediately into the lineup will be a blessing.

I would like to point out that reading the game description makes it sound like CV just beats the shit out of the Ads and the Ads just basically don't even bother to check anyone. It's that one sided hah.

Developmentally next year is the year Trenin really jumped in his AHL production. It's time to see how similar their development continues.

Definitely! We have some big boys on the Ads, so I'm sure they aren't being bullied quite as badly as the description here makes it sound. Still, they may be big, but they may not be quite as mean. :)

"Wrote off" is probably too strong of a term. Seems like everyone was resigned to him most likely being a forth line grinder at best.

Ouch, I guess that's good news for Askarov getting more games. With Saros and Askarov between the pipes it's understandable that Cooley and Vomacka would want to try their luck elsewhere.

Vomacka just didn’t even earn an offer. The ECHL team sucked, but still. He wasn’t coming back.

And Cooley is an adequate AHL goalie but he’s 26 and there’s no NHL upside there. It makes sense to move on, both sides knew it months ago. (Which is part of why I would have played Askarov in Game 6 but cestlavie).

I wonder how the ATO black ace goalie has looked?

Sign him or some other NCAA or European free agent, or possibly draft a couple graduating juniors (Milic or Rousseau types) given we have extra picks. We need to stock both Milwaukee and Atlanta now. Very doable.

There is no reason for Cooley to stay. Good luck, hope he finds a landing spot where he can compete for an NHL backup spot

I have never seen Vomacka play. I do remember him sitting on the Ads bench one time. He is tall and really skinny. His 87% saves in the ECHL isn't going to cut it in pro hockey. Maybe Cam Johnson?

Cooley can latch on with another organization. He has shown remarkable growth in 2 seasons!
The first time that I saw him, it was "he can play better than the other guy (from the Army, Parker Gahagen), but I don't think he can play in the AHL." Boy, was I wrong about Cooley's potential!

Kondelik is done in Milwaukee. He isn't good enough at any skill to last in the AHL.
Mutter can check and fight, but McCarron and others can do that and still score goals.
Nurmi scored 3X as many points as Mutter did. He is worth another year in Milwaukee.

Ufko isn't ready for the AHL. I would stay in school for another year or two if I were him.

Wilsby, Tomasino and Vange stepped up in the playoffs, scoring 3 G and 6 A, 2 G and 7 A, and 4 G with 11 A respectively. That was 33 points in 16 games between them.

I didn't see enough of Simon Knak to make an impression. He skated around on the ice.
It is not yet time to "Get the Knak".

That is c'est la vie, mon ami.

Parker Gahagen and Cam Johnson might be able to fill in at Atlanta. Maybe the better of the two could be the back up in Milwaukee? Johnson played 55 games for the Everblades this season. Last season, they won the ECHL title.

I suppose nobody even says anything about Grigals? But anyway, finding 2-3 goalies for the #4-5-6 slots shouldn’t be too tough.
