The difference in points this year will end up being 12-15... roughly 7 wins

If you factor in chara's injury and a stretch of below normal play by bergeron and rask during chara's absence it quickly adds up to a couple loses.

I think losing boychuk and iginla and krecji can add up to a couple more loses

Then sometimes luck goes your way one year and against you the next.

In the end you realize there is not much difference between a first place team and an eighth place team anymore and you learn some realistic expectations of your team and stop panicing over every songle loss all season long

The big bad Bruins need to become that again. Big and bad. Lucic needs to step it up, but those issues are pretty well documented.

It was kind of inevitable that when Chara started to slide, the team would too. Time waits for no man. We need a new top 4 Dman in the summer to shake things up ad revitalise the team

Ask the L A Kings..
they won the cup. .and are on the bubble.

Yup, they may not make it.

That's what the salary cap is meant to do - make it difficult to build a juggernaut. The NHL wants parity. It's better for business. You establish a winner, the players want to get paid (naturally), and you have to make those hard decisions about who to sacrifice and who to keep, because you can't keep everyone.

As for the Bruins, injuries to Krejci and Chara were critical (how many teams could weather playing a huge chunk of the season without their #1 defenseman and #1 center?), among other injuries (McQuaid, Krug, Miller, Campbell, all missed significant time, not to mention the lengthy recovery of Seidenberg), and some players have otherwise struggled/underperformed (Smith, Soderberg).

Also critical, and relating to the salary cap, was the fact that Chiarelli gambled big on Iginla last season, deferring a good amount of money (through bonuses) to this year's cap. He lost that gamble, but from what some on this board have said, it's the sort of move people want their GM to make.

All that said, their have been bright spots, and brightest of all IMHO is that overall this is still a young team, and despite the cap, the future looks good.

Living in the past.
This is not 2011 anymore.
Chara has aged, Seids has aged and Dougie has not progressed as much as many had expected.
Losing Iginla and Boychuk hurt.
Losing Seguin hurt.
They need to get rid of Clode's boys. Paille, Campbell and Kelly are not the answers.
