There’s way too many question marks around Kovy for anyone to want to trade for him. +35 contract with a 6M cap hit for 2 more years is something no GM in the league wants to worry about unless they’re sending something bad the Kings way.

So, keep him. Try to make it work. WD is probably gone after this year and it’s tough to predict their lineup for the next 2 years but if the Kings really want to play more offensive then roll a 3rd line that can score. Even this year with a healthy lineup they can go with a balanced attack.

Leipsic/Hagelin - Carter - Toffoli
Kovalchuk - Kempe - Scherbak

Play him ~15 mins a night, 3rd line minutes ES and as a shooter on the PP.

Cap going up to 83M the Kings can eat that cap hit for the duration of his contract, i don’t think they have much of a choice. They're stuck with Kovy and Phaneuf eating 11.5M for the next 2 years and then go from there (probably towards a rebuild, as then the core will be really old).
