The attitude from some canadian fans really amazes me. Canada is unquestionably the top dog of hockey. No other country has even close to the number of registered hockey players that Canada has. Their success on both senior and junior level is unparalleled in modern time. And then one little, unofficial ranking doesnt place them on the number one spot and they go bananza??!!

Why not just be happy for other countries developement? Hockey is a very small sport and is only nr 1 in 2 countries (Canada and Finland). I for one am happy that more countries are producing talented hockey players since it creates a foundation for the sport to grow even more. Guess there are more Don Cherry's in Canada than I thought.

I don't know that I would qualify taking thirty seconds to post a message on a hockey forum as "going bananza".

Soviet was the best, prove them wrong.

WHC 1963-1991 (29)
20 Gold
3 Silver
3 Bronze

WJHC 1974-1992 (19)
12 Gold
3 Silver
2 Bronze

OG 1956-1988 (9)
7 Gold
1 Silver
1 Bronze

We will never see that kind of domination again in modern times.

The World Juniors started officially in year 1977. Canada won 8 times between the years 1988 and 1997. And then won 14 medals between the years 1999 and 2012.
Canada also won 5 golds in a row (93-97 and 05-09) which is something what "dominant" russians have never done ;)

Also the olympics ... you gotta be kidding me

Russia has never won a gold medal at olympics since all the best players are available. And should I mention CCup / WCup ?

And mentioning the history (your WHC - 63' - 91'), Canada won 16 golds when participating 21 times between the years 1920 and 1951, but that probably doesn't count, right ? :)

So "unofficial" results from 74, 75 and 76 doesn't count :). Care to explain why not? Especially as Canada was a participant in during those years?

Nit-picking years... I never said Canada wasn't a great hockey country, I just said that Soviet had a better run.

Russia no, Soviet, well that's a difficult question seeing as they never got the chance...

That is pre-modern era so no, it doesn't count :naughty:

Apparently none of the original six's Stanley Cup Championships matter. And the Ottawa Senators? They never happened either, since expansion didn't hit until '67/

I would say Canada winning the Olympics and WHC's with amateur teams is more of an indication of dominance.

Why does that matter at all? I am talking about the national teams, not could have been national teams.

Anyway if you want to go that way you could say that seeing as Soviet players were not allowed to play and develop against the best in the World's best league (now that would the NHL) their performance was actually even more impressive.

If a hockey supporter cannot admit that the most dominant nation of all time in hockey was the Soviet then there is something wrong.

EDIT: By the way, I didn't mean to start a discussion about this. That Soviet was the best and most dominant team internationally is kind of a known fact (even in Canadian's, believe it or not), not a point of view for an argument. Seeing as this is going off topic I will stop here.
