If Dave Nonis could only re-sign Jay McClement or Dave Bolland who would you pick?

Bozak needs to go. Now that Kessel is signed just pull the bait and switch.

JVR - #1 Center - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Raymond - Bolland - Kulemin (awesome checking 3rd line)
Ashton - McClement - Orr

Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Franson - Reilly
Anyone but Ranger - Gardiner

Bernier - Reimer

If we're stuck with one or the other, Bolland fairly easily. I worry McClement leaves next year tbh... he's great at what he does, but 1.5 per is the absolute maximum I give a guy that has literally no offence at all to his game.

Kessel's new big raise may have cost the Leafs either Kulemin or Bolland for cap reasons.

McClement at $2-$2.5 mil with his new raise will likely still be able to be accommodated in the teams salary cap.

If Nonis can remove that boat anchor JM Liles off the team without retaining significant salary he might be able to save losing someone else for cap reasons.

Ummmmmmm.....no. You sign your stars to the contracts that stars get. If anything cost the Leafs Kulemin or Bolland it would be a certain $5+ M x 7 years.

Just because McClement is a Maple Leaf his value isn't dramatically higher than before we signed him. What he's doing for the Leafs is what he did for years before playing for the Avs/Blues and league executives/scouts know/knew this.

Bolland can play much higher in the lineup. He's a better player and therefore more valuable.

McClement is a 4th liner whose a top PK specialist. Nothing more/nothing less. Mclement is our version of Max Talbot (1.75) or Gregory Campbell (1.6) meaning he's worth somewhere around what they get paid.

Depth guys like McClement/Fraser are only valuable as long as their cheap but if they start commanding big salaries they're replaceable. Pending UFAs that could replace McClement are Moore, Fiddler, Goc, Fiddler, Mitchell, Handzus so lets not act like a 4th liner can't be replaced.

Teams like Chicago, Pittsburgh, LA, Detroit, San Jose move on from low end 3rd liners/4th liners all the time and so can the Leafs.

The top 8/9 forwards which Bollands fits into that group and top 4/5 Dmen are where our cap space needs to be focused.

I have to say McClement simply due to past results. If Bolland can prove to have just as good if not a better showing on our PK results, then perhaps I'd say Bolland. But in my opinion McClement is just as vital to us winning games as Kessel is. His defensive capabilities are not something to downplay.

you should remove the 3rd option, defeats the purpose of the thread title. i'd vote bolland but i don't see why we can have both.

What a great pickup Bolland has turned out to be for the Buds!

Bolland is a beauty.

Won't be answering to the pole itself, but am commenting: Keeping both would be ideal for Nonis cause they both have played here great game. Doing different type of things. Though they both can play good defence, mcclement is a detalje type of player who's maybe the best in the league in what he does. He is very intelligent and a perfectionist when it comes to hockey and defensive game.
Bolland is more talented offensive and makes very intelligent decisions offensively. Scores big and important goals as we all know. Both also have different type of leadership qualities, mcclement showing example by DOING things, everything on the ice. Bolland can also talk the talk and do wise moves on the ice.

Keeping these two great players, great players is the biggest key. To me they are as important as the big scorer Phil Kessel or any really good goalie. These players come first (bolland and mcclement) and are right there in the elite. They cannot walk. They must stay and others will go.

If it comes to bozak or somebody else going like raymond, kulemin or even james van riemsdyk, then be so. Bolland and mcclement are more important.

Obviously both if that's in the question.

I'm guessing however that Bolland will be a problem in regards to what he'll be expecting. If he stays healthy and has a successful season, I could see other teams be willing to sign him in the mid to high 4's, and that may or may not be too rich for Nonis.

While Bolland is great defensively Mcclement is on another level. You don't let your best penalty killer and defensive forward walk when your PK is top 5 in the league. Would like to keep Bolland to if he will accept 3.5-4.0 million. If not, slide Bozak down to 3rd line C and make a pitch for Paul Stastny. Can't justify paying a player like Bolland anything more then 4 million... He's good at what he does but he's a 3rd liner and that's all he will ever be.
