You can actually choose how many posts per page. Sometimes I shut that off in high traffic times though, assuming the servers are working to the point where I can shut that off

it just doesn't feel quite the same with the like thread molting its husk every 1000 posts

You can keep the same thread and I can just wipe out the posts after the OP and you can start again
