It is not nonsense, nor is it making crap up. Parent went down, they also got rid of the majority of the team which and then made a run in 1980. The Cup years took their eventually took their toll as it does most teams.

They didn't play THE strict Soviet style, but Shero was one of the first if not the first to start using an actual system, first to hire assistant coaches. Dave Schultz scored 20 goals in 1974, and was a + player every year he was with the Flyers. And why are we worried about the skill of Moose Dupont and Ed Van Impe? It wasn't their job to score goals, although Dupont's 22 goals between 1974-1977 is nothing to sneeze at for the defensemen unless you're Bobby Orr or Brad Park. Bob Kelly had 2 20-goal seasons of his own (one in Washington). You're coming at the skill of the Flyers depth players at that time. Just because teams like the Bruins and Sabres had 3 lines of 20-goal scorers, doesn't make the rest of them goons.

Bobby Clarke was also GREAT at winning critical face-offs and Bernie Parent seemed to stand on his head during those years.
