Do you not know who Drew Doughty is?

A superstar IMO is someone who is top-5ish in their respected position around the league.

Doughty is this with ease....

Kopitar could be argued to be a bubble top-5 Center.

Drew Doughty was tied-29th in scoring among defensemen this season.

Last year he was tied-26th.

11-12 he was tied-25th.

He's a really good D, but not superstar level to me.

Kopitar is the biggest star on the Kings, but not superstar level to me.

Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Getzlaf, & Stamkos are the top 5 for me.

So you are asking if I'd rather have a rock solid core capable of winning the division and going deep into the playoffs that is hovering right above the salary floor, or if I want to have the worst team in the league and a center that will be a great player?

This is pretty much the same as a poll like this:

Would you rather have

A: $100?

B: $100,000?

It is ridiculous that option A has a single vote in this poll.

That is really surprising he might be the 2nd d man I would take after Weber...would be between Drew.. Ryan Mc and Suter

It depends how you value players... do you value regular season offensive numbers? or do you value playoff consistency and 2 way play?

players like Kopi, and Bergeron... are superstars in my eyes

Kopitar and Toews are 1a and 1b... in my top 5. And if they were on my team, i'd be elated that the weren't scoring 100 pts and driving up their contract to cap ratio, and limiting the ability to put a strong team around them.

Agreed, rare to impossible for a team to win a championship in the current NHL without a 50-70 point selke caliber player, but no more so than without a Norris caliber D, elite scorer, etc

When you talk about superstar defensemen, most of those guys put up big numbers.

What are your top 5 defensemen today?

Doughty isn't a Norris finalist.

Crosby & Malkin are > PPG in the playoffs.

Getzlaf is right there, too.

Stamkos came back and had 4 pts in his four games this year.

Kopitar is definitely top 10. And I can see him being top 5. I just think he's around 6 or 7....

What rock have you been living under....

Have you not watched the last 2 Olympics?

How about the playoffs for the last couple of years?

Stay up past the early games much?

Going by your rating system Doughty isn't even a #1 D man.

In no order, I'd put Keith, Weber, Suter, and Pietrangelo above Doughty for sure. Chara, OEL, McDonagh, Subban, and Karlsson in the mix with him.

I think Doughty is a highly valuable #1 D, just not a superstar.

One area that hurts Doughty for me is that he's not a top PK pair guy. He's 4th on the Kings in SHTOI/G.

Pietrangelo is 1st on the Blues, Keith is 2nd on the Hawks, Weber is 1st on the Preds, Suter is 2nd on the Wild, and Chara is 1st on the Bruins.

And I wouldn't call guys like Subban & Karlsson superstars either because their games aren't that well rounded.
