With that said, as a suggestion you could probably expand this to 12 teams and 6 F, 3 D, 1 G. Up to you of course.

A 5F, 3D split puts too much weight into defensemen which are really hit and miss because they are less productive, save probably one d-man on every team (e.g. Karlsson, Markov).
