This article reminded me that we signed Mark Flood. The first of what will likely be many times I forget about that guy.

I can buy Staal over Francis at this point, as long as we're talking about Carolina and not Hartford/Carolina. Staal now leads Francis in goals (268 to 118), assists (359 to 236) and points (627 to 354). He's won a Cup here, been a postseason All Star, been in a handful of ASGs including one as captain for the home team, and is closing in on matching Francis' term as team captain. The organization has built around him in a way it never did for Francis, and it's only a matter of time before his number is in the rafters and he's working in the front office (if he wants that). To me, at this point he's pretty much THE guy in the 1997+ phase of franchise history.

If we're talking just Hurricanes in this, and not guys that also played for the Whalers, the forwards make sense, though Kapanen played LW here and Cole played RW.

Hedican over Gleason rather easily IMO, and that's not a bash on Gleason. Hedican was a legit top pairing quality guy when he got here, and was vital in the team getting to 2 Cup Finals.

No, I think you're mistaken Dave. It was Erik Cole who played RW, but that Eric Cole guy (who's a bit more obscure) definitely played LW.

Cole's easy to remember at RW thanks to that one (read: only) move he had going down the rightside boards and cutting in down low.

It might be fun to put a whole roster together..

Cole E.Staal Kapanen
Whitney Francis Williams
Stillman Brind'amour LaRose
Battaglia O'Neill Walker

Wesley Hedican
Gleason Ward
Pitkanen Wallin

Ward
Irbe

I fully expect J.Staal, Faulk and Skinner to break this roster one day.
