How would Alfredsson look in this line up?

I'm sure he still has enough juice to play as a 2nd/3rd line guy, but he isn't going to outscore Stone/Ryan in that role which bumps down his ability to significantly improve the team. His legs might be shot too, so his ability to outplay them on the backcheck (Alfredsson's strength) would be limited too.

He would be an upgrade on Lazar/Chaisson, but how much of an upgrade considering he'd be limited in icetime? 4 goals over a season? more? Keep in mind, he's not playing on the PP, so any improvement on those guys would come during ES. If it was 12 points more than Lazar in a season occupying a similar roll I'd be surprised. There's a reason you can't put a guy like Spezza on the 4th line and expect 60 points from him.

The reverse side of this is that, eventually, Ottawa needs to win without Alfredsson, Neil, and Phillips. That means guys like Lazar and Stone and Puempel and Hoffman need experience. You can't get that experience if Alfredsson is eating your lunch.

Normally, I'm a big fan of veterans, but this team isn't going to win the cup. Might as well play the kids.

he was Detroits leading scorer last year.... think about that.

He could be a top 6 forward but probably miss games from injury

top 6 forward in a 3rd line role and a pp specialist. Would have been great to have even if he only played in half the games due to injuries

He'd look old but play awesome and we'd all be warm and fuzzy with joy.

He looks pretty darn good up in management seats though.

wonder if he's getting that twinkle in his eye, knowing they're fighting for a spot, and 2 more down to injury..... no one starting the rumor yet ?...lol

He might have delayed Stone's development but if he could be our 3rd Line RW right now it would be awesome. He'd also definitely help the PP.

35-50 points right now. Would look good on the blueline on the PP. He might have lost a step but he would probably still be equivalent to everyone not named Ryan and Karlsson point-wise.

The team and media would rely too much on him though, not worth the hassle for him at that point in his career.

This team needed to learn how to win without Alfie and Spezza, they have finally shown they are able to this year. I don't regret anything.
