And "dead cap" is money the team overpays to its players. Say, player X' salary is 5m, but he's actually worth 3M. So dead cap is 2M. Of course, it can be reversal. Player Y's salary is 3M, but he's actually worth 5M. So what will you get in the end?

Ignoring ELC's:
Plekanec: 6, worth 3
Pacioretty: 4.5, worth 6.25
Shaw: 3.9, worth 3
Gallagher: 3.75, worth 4.5
Mitchell: 1.2, call it a wash
Byron: 1.667, worth 3.5
Weber: 7.857143, worth 7.5
Petry: 5.5, worth 4.5
Emelin: 4.1, worth 2.5
Davidson: 1.425, call it a wash
Benn: 1.1, worth 2.5
Price: 6.5, worth 8
Montoya: 1.0625, call it a wash

48.9375 deserved
48.56 paid

Actually not too bad, though obviously Pacioretty's steal of a current contract helps, him and Price are due for big raises. The Shaw contract is terrible for it being overpaid and its length (5 more years)

this will bring out a lot of unfounded hatred to some players

For the Blues about 6 mil. Everyone is paid pretty fairly save for Bouwmeester (about 2 mil overpaid), Lehtera (2), and Stastny (2).

Their bigger problem is they really don't have any "steals". Pietrangelo at 6.5 long term and Tarasenko at 7.5 long term are pretty damn good for such high end players, but not exactly "steals".

We're free from wideman, Raymond, and engellend so I'm actually quite happy besides our fourth line.

Brouwer 4.5
Stajan 3.25
Bouma 2.1

I would be thrilled to replace them with Hamilton, jankowski, and Hathaway. There's top 4 defense and a veteran rw right there

Our whole team is pretty much dead cap so I'm confident saying we'll take this one. Sorry guys.

I agree heavily with this. I actually think the only players who aren't currently over paid are our few under 24 players who haven't established themselves yet.

There's like Zetterberg, Mantha, AA and that's pretty much it. God damn this thread has made me sad.

Picking a fight
Roughly, based solely on current ability:

Tavares -- 5.5 worth 10 (+4.5)
Ladd -- 5.5 worth 3 (-2.5)
Grabovski -- 5.5 worth 0 (-5.5)
Kulemin -- 4.2 worth 2 (-2.2)
Lee -- 3.75 worth 5 (+1.25)
Cizikas -- 3.35 worth 4 (+.65)
Bailey -- 3.3 worth 4 (+.7)
Nelson -- 2.5 worth 3.5 (+1)
Strome -- 2.5 worth 2 (-.5)
Leddy -- 5.5 worth 6.5 (+1)
Hamonic -- 3.9 worth 5.5 (+1.6)
Hickey -- 2.2 worth 1.5 (-.7)
De Haan -- 2 worth 5 (+3)
Halak -- 4.5 worth 2.5 (-2)
Greiss -- 1.5 worth 3.5 (+2)
Everyone else roughly got paid what they're worth

So we came out getting 2.3M more value than we paid for, which doesn't seem right as we missed the playoffs with a high cap number, but JT's worth factorred in big here, and Snow's decision to play Berube over Halak hurt the team. Also, Capuano.

Most of the dead salary we have expires at the end of next season but we do still have Horton and Kessel on the books

Flames not counting those who need a contract and ELC next season:

Gaudreau: 6.75 worth 6.5 (-0.25)
Monahan: 6.375 worth 6 (-0.375)
Frolik: 4.3 worth 4.5 (+0.20)
Backlund 3.75 worth 6 (+2.25)
Brouwer: 4.5 worth 1.5 (-3)
Stajan 3.125 worth 2 (-1.125)
Bouma 2.2 worth 0.750 (-1.450)
F. Hamilton: Worth his $612,500 (Neutral)

Giordano: 6.75 worth 7 (+0.25)
Brodie: 4.650.400 worth 6.5 (+1.85)
D. Hamilton: 5.75 worth 6.25 (+0.5)
Bartkowski: 0.6125 worth 0.5 (-0.1,125)
Actual cap: 49.3754
Adjusted cap: 48.1125

So we're actually not having that much dead cap, as almost all of it comes from our terrible 4th line.

Dead cap on the Pens would be Kunitz (2.75m), maybe 500k on Hagelin, maybe 1m on Maatta and the retention on Scuderi.

Daley, Fleury, Hornqvist, Letang all fairly priced.

Pretty much everyone else is being paid less than the market rate right now. Or in Kessel's case, being paid less than the market rate by us.

These numbers more or less make sense. I think some of the "worth" may be off but I'm sure it balances out.

Not bad, Canadiens. Not bad at all.

Ignoring ELCs and RFAs because otherwise Wennberg and Werenski would completely destroy everything:

Saad is paid $6m, worth maybe $5.5m. ($0.5m)
Dubinsky is paid $5.85m, worth maybe $4m. ($1.85m)
Foligno is paid $5.5m, worth maybe $5.25m. ($0.25m)
Clarkson is on Long Term Injured Retirement and so doesn't matter. ($0m)
Hartnell is paid $4.75m, worth maybe $3m. ($1.75m)
Atkinson is paid $3.5m, and is worth at least $5m. (-$1.5m)
Jenner is paid $2.9m, worth is basically about that. ($0m)
EDIT: Calvert is paid $2.2m, and is worth about $1.75m ($0.45m)
Karlsson is paid $1m, and is worth $2.5m. ($-1.5m)
EDIT2: Sedlak is paid $0.825m, and is worth $1.5m (-$0.675m)
EDIT2: Hannikainen is paid $0.625m, and is worth pretty much that. ($0m)
Jones is paid $5.4m, and is worth somewhere closer to $7m. (-$2.6m)
JJ is paid $4.375m, and is worth pretty much that. ($0m)
Savard is paid $4.25m, and is worth pretty much that. ($0m)
Murray is paid $2.825m, and is worth about $3.5m. (-$1.175m)
EDIT: Harrington is paid $0.675m, and is worth maybe $1m. (-$0.325m)
Bobrovsky is paid $7.425m, and is worth maybe $5m. ($2.425m)

...I swear to G-d Almighty I didn't plan it this way, but that actually adds up to $0m in dead cap space. Although I may be underselling Bob's worth a tad.

EDIT: Whoops. Forgot Calvert and Harrington. That puts us over by $0.125m. Aww. :)

EDIT 2: Oh, hey, Sedlak and Hannikainen aren't on ELCs either. Brings us under by $0.55m. Yay! :D

Saad is worth his contract, man if Bob is worth only 5mill, every goalie in the league must be overpaid.

Oilers have Pouliot (4M) and Fayne (3.25M). You could suggest Eberle and/or RNH are dead cap but I think they are movable
