Sean Couturier has seen quite a spike in points over the past 2 seasons, which makes me wonder if this is what we should expect going forward or if he will score less in the coming years.

2015-16: 39 points (63 games)
2016-17: 34 points (66 games)
2017-18: 76 points (82 games)
2018-19: 76 points (80 games)

I'm a new owner of him in Fantasy hockey and a bit nervous he becomes a 50 to 59 point guy. So I'm thinking of selling high on him, but maybe I am too cautious and he is a 70+ point guy over the next 3 seasons.

How many points do you think Sean Couturier averages over the next 3 seasons?

50 to 59 points
60 to 69 points
70 to 79 points
80 to 89 points

Thanks!

It's not an option, but 65-75 I think. He's turned into one of the best all round players in the league. He's elite defensively, he scores 30 and plays in all circumstance. He's a born captain too, he'll take over when G finally goes.

No reason to think he'll decline. I don't think he will average 80pts, but he might reach it at times. I voted 70-79.

Nolan Patrick has top line potential, but it's not going to affect Couturier negatively yet. Only when/if he is taken off Giroux's line.

He was scoring at lower end 1st line level at 5v5 in 2015-17... without Giroux, but simply did not get PP time.

If he stays on PP1 he should pace for 70+ for the foreseeable future.

Also this year he was great when away from Giroux too... they spent about half the season apart.

his 5v5 scoring rate is low end 1st line without giroux basically regardless of the year @Appleyard
if he stays with giroux high 70s again presumably
if not probably low 60s
great defensive player as well

It will go down when AV drops his ice time from 22 mins/game to 18. Not a single Ranger forward reached 19 mins/game during AVs tenure.

He's put up 62 and 58 even strength points in the last two years respectively and is top-5 in the league in GAR over that same span.

He's going to be 27, in his prime, with a team that should have a better season under a new coach. His style is one of the most efficient in the league and doesn't overly rely on speed so I doubt that his production will be slowing down by the time he's cresting 30.

He's a lock for 70+ for the next 3 years but has a fair shot at breaking PPG if Philly's core finally starts to click.

He outproduced Giroux since the beginning of the calendar year. He puts up #1 center totals of you just confine your analysis to offense and then you add in his 200’ game and intangibles and you’ve got a bona fide not only #1 center but a real star. I’m not sure at this point why he’s seemingly not placed on a level with guys like Schiefele and Seguin and other centers who have long since been considered “franchise” level players. His all around game makes up for any lack of flash and there’s zero fluky about his production.

Such a steal to have him under 5m for the next 3 seasons. Has to be one of the best contracts in the league. Hopefully they don’t waste it away.

That's an interesting point. The Rangers weren't as top-heavy as Philly though, and he played Kesler 20+ in two of his seasons in Van. I could see him still being around 20, which might actually be better for him if it lightens some of his defensive responsibilities

You didn't have a Couturier.

Doesn't matter. It's his philosophy to spread out the ice time.

Stepan played 21 mins/game Torts last year. AV came in and he topped out at 18:37 in 4 years.
Nash 19:58 in Torts last year. Never above 17:27 with AV.

It was similar in Vancouver. AV's first year gone Kesler went straight to 21:49 over a minute more than AV ever game him (he hit 20 mins twice under AV). Henrik Sedin never played 20 mins/game under AV. First year without AV? 20:40. Same for Daniel.

So maybe he will get a bit more than the Ranger guys but Ryan Kesler 2011 and 2012 is the only player in AV's career as a Ranger/Canuck coach that a forward averaged 20 mins/game. It is pretty safe to say Couturier is going to be right around the 19:30 range based on what he's done his whole career which is a loss of almost 200 mins played from this year to next.

Not a single rangers forward was as good an all around player as Couturier

Depends, are those selfish jerks in philly ready to trade him to Colorado to back MacK up? :sarcasm:

...voted 70s, but I won't be surprised if he's in the 80s. Excellent player.

And as I said it was the exact same trend in Vancouver. In 12 seasons between Vancover/NY there were a total of 2 instances of a 20 min forward and 0 of a 21 min forward. That includes Kesler who was certainly just as good of an all around forward and topped out at almost 2 mins less than Couturier got this year.
