How many goals will Ovechkin score in 2022-23?

Oh I think that is certainly in the realm of possibility. I just think that the most likely outcome is a bit lower.

I agree with you, the odds are not in his favour at that age but if anyone can defy the odds it's Ovi.

I'd bet against him hitting 50 at 38 while realizing there's a realistic chance I'd lose that bet.

really I absolutely want to see one of Gretzky's scoring records get broken. He has a lot of records that are untouchable to see that there is 1 that can potentially be beaten is exciting.

I'm boring and safe. 46-50 is my guess. But closer to 50, I'd pick 48-52 if possible.

"He's 37". Last year it was "he's 36 and only scored at a 41 goals pace".

He just scored more points than any year since 2009-10, still put 50 in 77 games.

I dont think he has it in my to go for 55-60, but wouldn't be surprised if he hits above 50

He had a ton of EN goals last year and one of his linemates is recovering from ACL surgery. I'd guess low 40s

Road to 894 is still alive. He's currently sitting at 780 so he needs 114 more goals.

He just turned 37 a few days ago...hopefully he has one more 50 goal season in him because it'll help a ton.

If he plays 3 more years (until age 40), he'll need to average 38 goals a season
If he plays 4 more seasons (until age 41) , he'll need to average 29 goals a season

At 37, I really do think he'll start to slow down now. I'll say he'll score somewhere in the low 30's this season. Still great for a guy that age.

Was Ovechkin injured last season? Or did he just slow down due to age/bad stretch? Because he was great in the first half, a lot less in the second half and even playoffs.

I'd guess at ~40-45, but wouldn't discount 50+ again.

Due to injuries to core players he played with a lot of young players on the roster and they kind of skated for him. Then Backs Oshie et al came back and the entire team (except the PP) became worse. He really stepped up when the other stats were out, even competing for the Art Ross for the first half of the season. #leadership.

People forget that Ovi 37 doesn't score by being fast or deking guys. He scores by being one of the smartest players in the game, having one of if not the best shots in the league and also makes space for himself with his incredible strength. All of those things can stay with him until he's 40.

Pretty unique player tbh.

If he's injury free all season and the league wide average goals scored stays the same as last season or goes up, he can score more than 50.

Less than 40, I don't expect a total collapse but his decline is becoming more apparent. He got through last year with a high shooting percentage and over 20 minutes of nightly ice time, neither will likely survive this year.
