How many games will the Jets win to finish the season?

The Jets have the following 14 games remaining, 8 home and 6 away. My best guess is, assuming they lose to Pittsburgh and win against Carolina, that they will need to win 7 out of the remaining 12 games to clinch a play-off spot. My other best guess is to ensure the third seed (and the South East banner flying at the MTSC for all eternity!), they will have to win the next two games, and then take 7 out of the remainder. I've marked a W or a L beside the games, indicating how I predict the Jets will fare. Could this be the year a Jets team plays in the post-season for the first time in 17 years? Could this be the season that a Jets team makes it to the second round for the first time in 26 years?

The way I see it. I think we can beat the caps, but the Isles always seem to give us trouble.

8-4-2, good for 56 points, which would all but guarantee the Southeast crown. Seems reasonable?

I'm not going to say which games are going to be wins and which will be losses but I saw on Twitter that our magic number to win the Division is 27. That is combined points we gain plus points lost by Carolina.

I will say looking at that list and seeing how short it is an eye opener. **** just got real :amazed:

That's how I feel about it - looking at the schedule it seemed impossible that the Jets had only 14 games remaining, WTF? There's nothing we can do but sit back and watch the next month unfold. I just hope the Jets can taste it as bad as I can.

Are they going to be heartbreakers? Are they going to induce some heart attacks? I haven't been this excited for hockey since, well, last year I guess. But before that since 1996, and before that 1990 (f'ing Bob Murdoch not starting Essensa in favour of 5-hole Wonder Beauregard)

You could drive a Mack truck through that hole.

But at least he was in net, unlike Rick Tabaracci who was most likely found near the blueline or in the corner, even when the opposing team was all in his zone :shakehead

We'll clinch with less (ie 5 to 6 Ws), Caps and Canes will both lose more games than us and won't be able to make up difference.

I love how one Leaf fan just dropped in to vote for 5 or less.

Thanks for your contribution to the Jets forum!

Twenty some odd years later and I'm still asking. Why? Why did Murdoch start Beauregard? We had the Oilers backed up against the ropes, about to administer the KO, and he frickin' decides not to start Bob-Bee Essensa. Of all of the baffling decisions made by Jets 1.0 GM's and coaches during their tenure in Winnipeg (Jimmy Mann over Kevin Lowe anybody?) this is, to me, the most baffling of all. The winner of the Jets vs. Oilers series was going to the Conference finals at minimum, and Beauregard gets the nod. Fack. The Jets had the misfortune to face the Flames, Oilers or Canucks in the play-offs too many times, and the one year the Jets looked like a deep run could be a possibility, we have a coach that instead of riding the winner til he drops, alternates goalies.

What could have been. The Jets, playing as hot as they had for the second half of the year, had a chance at getting to the finals, and if they had won the Cup, probably wouldn't have been in such a sorry state by '96.

Oh, the humanity.

Oh well, rant over. Time to put the past behind us.

Let's get behind our team, and cheer them onto bigger and better.

Oh I'm still bitter too. We had that series and we gave it away.

Amazing that one of the top-celebrated Jets 1.0 moments is the Dave Ellett goal in 2OT....which was still in a losing series, while our division-mates won all the Cups.

Even years we finished 3rd overall, still an early exit from the playoffs.

So unfair.

It all depends on which team shows up. I think we for sure take the Rags, Canes and Buffalo.

The rest depends on which team shows up. If Pavs keeps playing consistently, and I pray he does. If the team keeps playing to win...I could see them sneaking one off Pittsburgh and at least one off the Habs as well. The isles always seem to give us trouble...but if we stick to te system and play our game and not their offense heavy style we take it. I'd love to say that we'll declaw the cats...but we notoriously play crap against them too.

Thy really need to beat Washington.

I was optimistic and said 9...bit they have to maintain this level of play to get there.
