I wonder why people mention his size as a factor in getting drafted before LaFontaine and Yzerman. He was only 6 feet tall and around 190 pounds. Was a two-inch difference such a huge deal back then?

It's still a big deal now. Lafontaine was even littler at 17 than the 5-10 175 he played at and there were questions despite his massive junior production.

Plus it wasn't like Turgeon wasn't talented. He outproduced Yzerman by a mile in junior and then walked into the NHL and scored 40 goals as an 18 year old.

His first three seasons before the abdominal injuries were on par with Yzerman and far better than Lafontaine.

Tbh as a goal scorer. In his first three seasons before injury took him out for good. This is pretty accurate. He scored something like 115 goals.

it was a good joke

if you count roenick's first three seasons as his first three years out of the draft, it's pretty close. roenick makes up a lot of ground for missing almost the entire first year with his eleven goal playoffs in year two.

but if you count roenick's first three seasons as his first three real seasons in the league, it's not close. roenick destroys him, even counting just goal scoring, regular season and playoffs.

There is no such thing as "his first real seasons". Turgeon scored 40 goals coming into the league as an 18 year old. But yea once Roenick hit 21 years of age there is no contest obviously.

tbf, when roenick was called up in his draft year after his junior season ended, he put up 9 goals and 18 points in the last 17 games of the season. obviously he wasn't there for the rest of the year but he did score at a 42 goal pace and was on pace for the exact same 85 points, vs. rookie turgeon's 40/79. woulda coulda, but it's something. keenan didn't start him in the playoffs, but he did put him back in in the second round, where he scored what ended up being the game winning goal to eliminate the blues to send chicago to the campbell's finals.

roenick's pace cooled down in year two (his official rookie year), while turgeon scored at the same rate as before only he missed 16 games so they ended up with basically the same points. but then roenick had an 11 goal playoff run to return to the campbell's finals, as many playoff POINTS as turgeon would score in his entire career (36 games).

in year three, roenick has even caught up to turgeon in regular season goal totals. they both finished just out of the top ten, although roenick murders turgeon in points and is miles ahead as an overall player.

but anyway, s turgeon > roenick and ~ hull was a good joke. i chortled.
