How does the NHL trade deadline compare to trade deadlines in these other leagues?

Every of the top 5 leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS) does have a trade deadline.

Which one is the most followed by fans, media?

In what league generates the Trade deadline most significant trades?

And which one moves the most money between franchises?

baseball has the most activity and biggest names move each year.

teams really load up and are active at the deadline with major pieces like Machado moving

NBA is usually pretty interesting, especially because of their lenient buyout rules.

MLB has a big trade every year, but with the non waiver deadline lasting all of August sometimes the bigger names dont get moved until then.

I believe the NHL might be the busiest one in all the sports. The MLB one isn't really a deadline as you still see deals past the July 31 deadline.

MLB is active but keep in mind no draft picks are traded so it is a bit different. Also players can still be traded past July 31st but have to pass via waivers.

Why that?

cant trade your actual draft picks in MLB.

The only picks that can be traded are the compensatory picks at the end of rounds teams get for losing a FA. And those rarely get dealt because draft picks are extremely valuable in baseball, arguably more so than in any other sport.

There are 3+ layers of minor league rosters that teams control, so the best way to build and maintain a winner is to load up on as many prospects as possible with the idea that the more you bring in, the more you'll be able to develop into pro players through the system

Yeah, the NFL trade deadline is almost meaningless, considering in-season trades are pretty uncommon. NFL teams are really built through the draft and free agency. Trades in general are much lower down the totem pole in importance.

The MLB trade deadline is weakened by the fact there's really two of them. The non-waiver deadline is at the end of July, but trades can still happen after if the players have cleared waivers. However, only players that are on the roster by August 31 are postseason eligible, so there is a de facto second deadline. The first is usually the major one because those trades have no additional caveats, but teams will still trade up to the second if they feel the need for a postseason reinforcement (and that waiver requirement can cause interesting complications, too).

The NBA deadline and the NHL deadline are similar in their nature and relative importance, though it does come a bit relatively earlier in the NBA.

MLS's transfer windows are more in line with European practice, and are hard to compare with the others, but do catch some attention.
