What about a base of Norris for Couturier

Two injured guys but Philly gets the younger one with more upside and Ott gets the veteran to help out our other centers

Would do this as Flyers fan. Upside play. Good suggestion and Sens could use a 2 way player, even if his offense has dried up a little. Pending medical eval of course.

Seems like Flyers need to take these risks on players with upside who have struggled for various reasons and hope they don’t recur.

Somebody suggested Foerster as well - not sure why it hasn’t been tried yet. He was a C through all of Junior, great defensively, high IQ, above average playmaking and a great shot.

Yeah I think it fits needs well and is somewhat realistic value wise.

Norris will be the better player long term and Couturier can help Stützle and Pinto for veteran presence as we’re too young down the middle.

I know Staois says they want veterans so it would be in line with what the GM is saying. Maybe Giroux helps moves past the NMC as well

flyers are in bad shape in the center dept.

- they have nothing on the current roster who you can say are top 6 centers at the moment. Maybe Couturier gets back to that though time will tell.
- nothing in house or who they drafted fits that bill.
- no top line center will sign with philly unless a massive overpay.
- cant see a trade for one.
- drafting and luck seem like the only hope.

Draft one with potential the next couple years. Trade TK for a young center with potential to grow + whatever else

Its gonna take ~3 years to develop a top-6 C. There are no magic solutions.

Unless they want to overpay for Stamkos.

There was a rumor during the season that Zegras was available for trade, don’t know I that’s still relevant or not.

Without drafting them it’s real tough. Philly at least is a franchise players choose to go to via free agency, or even waving trade clauses for, but even at that, it’s still hard signing one and then how old are they?

They have to start drafting Cs with top picks but that’s easier said than done sometimes too. So what do you do with these high picks if you don’t feel there’s a potential #1 C to draft? Draft Top young dmen. Build from the blue line out. Overdraft them. It’ll take longer because Dmen take longer to develop, but then you’ll have many opportunities through trades, as teams will always pay a premium for really good, young Dmen. A premium they won’t pay for most wingers.

Anaheim and Detroit have both gone with this theory in many ways. Now, it’s also worked out where they also have some top C prospects too, but both of those teams, by investing in so many good young dmen, will be in positions to make big trades for premium talent up front, as long as these Dmen keep developing like they are. Obviously Anaheim already made one of those deals with Philly. You can’t do that drafting a bunch of wingers.

Thing is, it does take time without hitting on a lottery pick, and unfortunately fans and media aren’t the most patient. For example, if they don’t draft one to develop in the 1st Rd this year, it’s just going to push things further out into the future. If they do draft one this year, he’s likely 3-4 years away. Hard sell to an impatient media and fanbase.

They simply have to start biting that bullet though, cause they’re not gonna magically appear.

He won't be available by then, Take Helenius and then hope to get a higher pick next year

Except Helenius was 9th in Bob's poll and Catton 11th.

And if it goes as usual - teams move in the final days towards safer picks - Helenius probably goes first.

Flyers had bad luck with Patrick. Yes in hindsight Hextall was told by scouts to draft Makar. Lots of teams need centers. Flyers have to get in a position to draft top 5 in the draft.

Catton has the higher ceiling, and is absolutely the more skilled player. I would be shocked if he falls outside the top 10.

Catton might be there, but he’s not an NHL center. He’s said so himself that he’s probably a wing in the NHL.
When has he ever said that? Scouts think he is more likely to be an NHL center than Lindstrom
