How different would the Bruins franchise be if they didn’t trade Joe Thornton in 2005?

Give me an example of Thorntons leadership style having anything to do with that. A specific example like a story about how he reacted to a loss or a teammates play. Anything. Weve discussed his just okay personal play enough times.

Having a roster that never peaked high enough isnt the same thing as not playing the game the right way.

I legitimately don't understand what you're asking for here.

Leaders lead by example.

The fact that he disappeared in big games says it all. He wasn't a leader on the ice and you can't expect a team to elevate its game when it's leader and best player shrivels

The San Josee sharks organisation played the 2014-2015 season without a team Captain, after a 111 pts season... where its under 35 years old captain played all the games, had his contract extension signed before the end of the year and was healthy.

We can never know that much, we speculate, if any of this exist at all, but the people that know the most about it and where the most invested about being right opinion do not seem to disagree.

Can we imagine that happening to the Gretzky, Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman, Sidney Crosby, Chara, Toews, Lidstrom, Patrice Bergeron teams ?

They removed the C to Marleau to give it to Blake, not Thornton right away....

Maybe it was Joe Thornton himself decision, but that could be argued to be worst not better in that regard.

And if we are really crass, the statement that Toews team still winning the cup in those circumstance made the media wrong about being a good leader, will be subjective here, depends on how you define the goals.

You are aware a captains stat line is basically the least relevant factor as far as choosing a captain?

Captains are chosen for three major aspects:
-On-ice role wearing a letter.
-Off-ice role representing the team to media, fans, etc.
-Off-ice role acting as the party whip to the team, enforcing discipline through soft-management skills, mentoring rookies, encouraging the team to socialize together to improve cohesion, meshing together nearly 30 different personalities and nationalities without conflicts, motivating the team during difficult times.

Point #3 is the most important point there is, and I have yet to hear anything damning about how Thornton ran his dressing room as a captain. Maybe a tiny bit damning that Scratchard? criticized energy level in Thorntons locker room in Boston in 2006 and got traded away soon after. A captain constantly demanding the team be more intense until they stop listening isnt how leadership works either.

For Thornton to be 'worst captain ever', there ought to be stories on par with Corson literally fighting with Allison over who got awarded an assist, and... Im waiting to hear them...

None of that makes any sense at all. Thornton's stat line is a direct result of his lack of leadership and inability to raise him game.
24 years of failure.
