I think it has come to a point to ask this question of "global" music, manipulated and dominated by big US corporations. Because if they didn't dominate the top 10 trash pop hits of the day in basically every country, you would've heard of this angel almost a decade ago.

Her name is Loreen, she's half Swede/ Moroccan. She has the best from both singing cultures and her technique is sublime. She has all the vibrato, she can linger, she has overtones for days, she has the nasal tones, power beyond most - and she has that desert wailing to mix into all of it.

Well, this is how she won Eurovision 2012 nine years ago (I picked a presentation later because then she just goes for it):

You want provocative stuff? Well...

You want slower killer album songs? Well...

She's awesome and she basically obiliterates most music transmitted today, including the big names.

Oh, you want a cover? Well, how about "You're the voice?":

I mean, you kind of wrote the answer into the question.

She's a phenomenal singer, that's not the issue. But if she's playing on Swedish and Moroccan cultural cues, it makes perfect sense that she'd win Eurovision and barely make a ripple in North America. Music is culture, people are going to react most strongly to music that riffs on their own cultural touchpoints.

Even the name "Loreen" isn't very marketable from a North American perspective. It's similar to "Lorraine" which sounds old-fashioned without being retro-cool.

Most of the videos you posted have hundreds of thousands to millions of views, that's pretty good right? Not every artist has to be an international superstar.

regarding loreen:

-it's not just about talent, which is obvious that she does possess. there are other variables that she would have to work on maybe to cross over to america. image and maybe a name change for starters.

-the most important reason is not working with a well renowned producer. if anyone that wants to make it in pop music a big time music producer has to want to work with that artist. someone like greg kurstin or max martin could easily and instantly get someone right near the very top.
