Horvat will represent the islanders and wear his islanders uniform for the first time at the All Star game. He will play for the pacific however.

How many guys can say they made their team debut at an All Star game? LoL

This is interesting. As an isles fan it wouldn’t bother me if he represented the Canucks one last time being that he made the all star game entirely as a Canuck.

Bettman's NHL - where Seattle has no representative and Vancouver's representative is wearing an Islanders jersey.
What can the NHL do when no star players are willing to cancel their vacation plans at the last minute? The current result is the NHL has to patch last minute holes with host team players (Barkov), guys who know this is likely a one-off (Stephenson), and imperfect compromises (Horvat).

Increase the prize money? Add some sort of competitive advantage for the winning division?

Or just let the player attend and be an all star that he earned and wear his old teams uniform. Or give the player the option.

Sandis Ozolinsh did the same in 2003: he was traded by Florida to Anaheim days before, right after being named to the All Star Game. It was played in Florida, coincidently enough, and when he came out got a loud cheer from his former home crowd. Played for the East while wearing the Ducks logo on his jersey.

It's still dumb imo. He's not in the Pacific Division.

The saving grace is that the integrity of the all star game doesn't really matter, but it's just odd for the NHL to communicate that

This isn't an Islanders debut. Also dumb that he will be playing for the Pacific with Isles stuff on his jersey.
