No thanks. Puljujärvi looks like a bust. Plus his smile looks like he’s about to murder someone.

Well he's not a rental, still has a year after this one left on his deal.

Larsson is worth far more than a single season of Hoffman.

Florida traded less than my OP and now he has only 1 year left. Granted I didn’t know the Panthers needed a RD and wouldn’t be interested in Puljujarvi but Hoffman doesn’t return a top 4 D with term. Huberdeau is another story, I would assume he would quite easily as he’s better than Hoffman and comes with an excellent cap hit and term.

Call me crazy but if Chiarelli wasnt a complete dumbass and just acquired Hoffman last season and he didn't made his couple terrible trades this year the Oilers would be a lock for the playoffs right now

Draisailt-McDavid-Caggiula
Hoffman-RNH-Chiasson
Khaira-Strome-Kassian
Lucic-Brodziak-Rieder

Even worse would be simply undo the Hall, Eberle and Reinhart deals.

Hoffman - McDavid - Draisaitl
Hall - Barzal - Eberle
Caggiula - Khaira - Chiasson
Rieder - Brodziak - Kassian

Draft Sergechev instead of Puljujarvi. Some will say in hidesight but the Lucic contract was horrible the day it was signed as was the Hall trade and Barzal was ranked top 10. The Reinhart trade sucked instantly too. Only the Eberle trade made a tad of sense for cap reasons then Chia wasted it and dumped Strome for a cap dump in Spooner.

How about:

To Edmonton: Hoffman, Pysyk and Riemer ($11,320,883 in cap)

To Florida: Larsson, Spooner (dump/1 year left), Manning (dump/1 year left), Talbot (UFA at years end), Yamamoto and a conditional 1st in 2020 if Hoffman re-signs with the Oilers, otherwise it's a 2nd round pick in 2021. ($7,466,666 in cap next season if Manning and Spooner are buried in the AHL, unless Yamamoto makes the team in which case you'd add $894K).

This allows Florida to get an upgrade on D, open up ~$4 million in cap space for next season and even more the following season while adding a couple of cost controlled assets in Yamamoto and the pick.

This gives Edmonton a top 6 player and a sniper, a downgrade on RD but still a serviceable guy that is also from Edmonton and an experienced back-up having a down year to challenge Koskinen next season.

I'd do it from FLA perspective though it's a lot of buried money next year. Not sure the owners would wanna pay up.

Every team would do pretty well if they could see the future

As you are aware, Larson, as he admits, has pretty much sucked this season as has Pysyk btw. Doubt that the Panthers would gamble Hoffman on Larson turning it around next season.

Didn’t take the future to see any of those deals were downright brutal at the time. The only trades we won and collectively seemed to agree on was the Talbot and Maroon trades
