In a recent thread Ice Hockey's Red Line was discussed. Where did it come from and when?

Theokritas followed up with an explanation that got me thinking, maybe this sub-board would be well served if we expanded on this question, asking where various hockey rink fixtures came from. Here's a rink to refer to, if anyone is interested.

If anyone wishes to join in. How did we get to this point?

1, the red line was introduced to modern Ice Hockey in 1943 by the NHL.
2. the 4 x 6 foot goal and posts were introduced by Montreal in the 1870s to 1880s. era ( or so PH believes)
3, .....?
4. ....

Might be worth using this as a jumping off point...

This second image from the NHL evolution page begs other questions not noted. Where did the rounded boards come from? Where was the first boarded rink? What about blue lines? Are the surface dimensions fixed yet? Where did they come from?
How did we get this point? in other words
