This is our Toews draft, next year our Kane. We're real contenders anywhere from 2-4 years after our Kane draft depending on what Murray does in trades/FA's and what prospects make the jump to the bigs.

You can't really pinpoint anything because there's too many variables.

That's what I'm saying. 4 years from start of rebuild to Cup champs. That's what we should be aiming for.

Or the Penguins - 6 years (2003-2009) - but only 5 seasons since one was a lockout year

-2008-division champs and Cup Finals

Don't know why you can't be supportive of the full rebuild without being a little ambitious about the timetable. Things can turn around from top to bottom in a few years time.

The irony here is that you are freaking out after one year of a top 2 pick and the Pens fanbase had to endure two more seasons like that AND get lottery lucky with Crosby after a lost season.

If you are going to point to the Pens, then you should be ready not only for 2014-15 to be top 2 pick bad, but 2015-16 to be that bad. And maybe even 2016-17 as the Sabres fans won't get the benefit of a lockout year to miss the enjoyment of suffering through.

Chicago also had their two D studs well cooked by that time as Keith was drafted 5 years before Kane and Seabrook 4 years before.

Risto & Zad will only be 2 years before "our Kane".

So, Pysyk needs to be the Sabres' Duncan Keith.



The key will also be the vets that Murray add like Chicago was able to do with the Sharp trade and Hossa signing.
