As a matter of physics, there's only so much you can do to displace energy AND leave some flexibility for the hands to move.

Yup. And even with padding, the force is still felt. Its like wearing a bullet proof vest, your body will still feel the trauma and force of impact.

it's 2017, surely we can get hockey gloves that have full protection that can resist a slash. Thoughts?

You're right. We don't let the players have them though because injuries are a historically important part of the game even though they should really be playing in Iron Man-esque power suits the US has secretly developed for military deployment only.

Lots of times guys will wear bigger gloves when recovering from wrist injuries but if stick handling is a big part of their game they will switch back to the lighter gloves when healed

Oh I have no doubt more padded gloves are available but the reality is that NHL players will take a chance on health if it means they have more mobility or freedom.

Probably why you don't see neck guards or full cages across the board.

players do not respect each other because of their equipment these days. get rid of gloves and players will know how much it hurts to be hit in the hands so they won't do it anymore.

A little extreme dint you think? Surely there will be a few chopped fingers before people start to "respect each other". And even then, accidents will happen.

And imagine a Weber bomb on a bare hand...ouch. I mean, he's already injured players wearing gloves.

Under the logic of protecting elbows/shoulders better, we made elbow and shoulder pads into weapons.

If you do the same thing with gloves the next time someone face-washes a guy they will be out with a concussion.

Cover all sticks with a pool noodle, slashing problem solved other than the blade. Ridiculous of course but would solve the problem, just like the elbow pad could be made with foam rubber on the outside, absorbing much of the force of an elbow to the face for instance.

Dress the players in sponge rubber Sumo wrestling suits and have a lot of extra padding on the skates.
