Anyone know the answer to this? Obviously nothing early. Lets put the cutoff say 2008.

Kyle beach was drafted 11th overall and still has yet to play a game in the NHL

Is that when you started watching? How arbitrary.

Ray Martyniuk. 5th overall.

Picks pre-1969 (back when the draft process was a mess) shouldn't count.

No it's not actually. Its just seems like a good time to put the cut off as most people who play a game in the NHL are gonna play 9 years after their draft year.

You seem to know so much about hockey though considering your reply so how about you enlighten me on your vast knowledge and answer the question?

I refuse to believe that ''The Volchinator'' was a bust

Your question's been answered. And seeing as it's not much of a discussion point as it's basically "Google the trivia question" I suppose there's not much else to add here.

Chet Pickard Nashville #18 overall 2008 draft never played an NHL game.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=90124

He was awful at the ECHL level. He had save percentages of 87.7 and 89.0 and 87.5 during his three years in the "E" with the Cincinnati Cyclones and Bakersfield Condors. Nice kid, bad goalie. Brother of Las Vegas Golden Knights goalie Calvin.

His coach in Cincinnati had to play him because the Cyclones were affiliated with Nashville. Had he been a free agent he would have been cut after a month or two. Has to be in any discussion of worst first round picks of all time as there aren't any (to my knowlege) mitigating circumstances (injuries) which caused him to be a washout.

Another complete washout who played extensively in Cincinnati was Anaheim Ducks #12 overall in 2000, Alexi Smirnov. He played 52 games in the NHL notching 3 goals and 3 assists. He never scored 10 goals in a season in the AHL. I was told by a former Cincinnati Ducks official years later that a severe groin injury which kept getting aggravated contributed to Smirnov's difficulties at the professional level.

Another former Cincinnati Mighty Ducks player, Stanislav Chistov was a total bust. The 5th overall selection in the 2001 draft had 19 goals and 42 assists in 162 NHL games. Stan could skate like the wind and had a ton of moves in his repertoire, but may have been the worst finisher that I've ever seen. You'd watch him play and marvel at his speed and creativity and cringe at his lack of finish. Two straight years of high Russian bust outs could have impacted the Ducks on their future selections. They have never drafted a Russian as their top pick since Chistov.
