The prospect pool looks a lot better than it did when Chia took over, that's for sure.

I'd say that Benson has the highest upside of the group so I pick him. Reinhart has the best chance to be an everyday NHLer but not much upside there. Don't know as much about Cagguila but I thought he looked fantastic in the Frozen Four but limited sample size. Bear still has a lot of proving to do.

Drake here. Has top 6 potential.

I think Paigin next. His last season was incredible. Not many fans seem to think about him. He could be great if his development continues as is.

Not sure Yakimov should be that high. Last I heard his skate is still terrible and if he can't improve that he has no shot at being a shutdown centre in the NHL. Kind of a shame I had hopes at one point that he might be an Anisimov type player down the road, but now I'm not so sure.

For comparison this is how the voting ended up in the summer of 2014. Do you really think the 2016 group looks better than this?

So, if we can extrapolate anything from this list, it's that the top 2-3 will become players (and will be guessed correctly, but maybe not in the correct order), there will be 1-2 lower ranked players who show vast improvement, a couple will still need more development Ina few years, and the rest will turn out to be flotsam.

No he didn't. We just didn't pay attention.
Coaches have always loved him but he doesn't play a flashy or crazy style of hockey that really stands out.
Leaped up above the competition like Superman this year because he had good fundamentals, played the way the coach wanted to and he did everything consistently.

This is depressing. Although I really think Nurse is still a prospect, but man does our prospect pool lack the sexiness it had in the past.

We've had a ton of guys like that and we still have a lot like that. Simpson, Musil, Reinhart are prime examples of this. There is just a lot of these guys throughout the the AHL and Europe. Thankfully for us Davidson has stepped up and overcome his short comings.

I know it was in the poll but I didn't really consider Draisaitl and Klefbom prospects at this time last season since they were pretty much NHLers.

I meant the depth moreso than anything else. Look past those top guys and there was nothing to get excited about last offseason. A year later and we have Davidson obviously, Reinhart, Pulju, Benson, Cagguila, Bear had a great year, Paigin had a great year, Khaira showed NHL promise etc. The prospect pool as a whole looks a lot more promising than it did this time last year but of course, that's all hopes and dreams at this point.

Wasn't that done in 14, so 2 years ago?

And LD wasn't really a NHLer going into this year regardless. He was a prospect that was coming off a season where he was sent to finish the year off in Junior.

Benson should have been a 1st rounder.

Yeah and 29 NHL GM's that are hockey experts, along with 29 NHL scouting staffs must have all been wrong... I'm as high on the guy as anyone, but worry that he dropped for a real reason. As such, I'll temper my expectations on him until proven otherwise. As they say in the stock market, you shouldn't try to catch a falling knife. Often it's falling for a reason.

Yeah, those scouts were all right about Brandon Saad a few years ago too.
