1 (19) Julien Gauthier RW 6'4" 225 lbs. (Val-d'Or, QMJHL)
-A lot is said about his limitations in terms of consistency and pick distribution but the fact remains he can put the puck in the net. This is valuable to any team, especially one with the potential to lose a lot of goals this summer depending on how free agency works out. I was also impressed with his mobility and physicality at the WJCs.

2 (44) Jordan Kyrou C 6'0" 179 lbs. (Sarnia, OHL)
-Only scratching the surface of his potential. Seems to be a center with a wide range of skills that can contribute even when not scoring. Very impressive at the u18s.

2 (49) Dennis Cholowski LD 6'1" 165 lbs. (Chilliwack, BCHL)
-Excellent skating and raw skills. In the middle of a significant growth spurt, but even now shows an impressive all around game. Has been rocketing up the scouting lists since the winter. Potentially tremendous value at this position.

3 (79) Zach Sawchenko G 6'1" 179 lbs. (Moose Jaw, WHL)
-While TB has good goaltending depth at the Pro level, they lack any real junior prospects in the system at this position. I've been impressed with Sawchenko's athleticism and ability to take away the bottom of the net each time I've watched him. Put up very good numbers while often facing a ton of shots. Hoping in real life this is someone the Oilers look at with one of their picks at the bottom half of the 3rd.

4 (109) Maxime Fortier C/RW 5'10" 176 lbs. (Halifax, QMJHL)
-Happy to get Fortier at this spot, even if I was hoping for Filip Berglund and then Sambrook before they were taken (both great picks in this round, though unfortunately not by me). Fits the mold of a TB player with great speed, skill and finishing ability. Carried the Moosehead offense once Meier was traded and put up similar numbers to Laberge. Could very well be underrated in both this and the real draft.

5 (139) Dylan Coghlan RD 6'3" 187 lbs. (Tri-City, WHL)
-Smooth skating rugged Dman, working on improving transition game.

6 (169) Ondrej Najman C 6'1" 187 lbs. (HC Dukla Jihlava, Czech U20)
-Very strong junior league and u18 numbers reflecting a poor man's Tomas Hertl, happy to take a flier on him at this point in the draft, especially after Beck "Be My" Malenstyn was picked a few spots ago.

With the 170th pick of the draft, the San Jose Sharks are very pleased to select Danish winger Mathias 'Boy Band' From!

55612_large.jpg

From is listed as comfortable on either wing and does a great many things well. He is listed at 26 on Central Scouting's European skater list.

He has good size at 6'1, 187lbs

From EliteProspects:

A strong transitional forward with solid offensive and defensive upside. Defensively, always active and keeps himself mobile to make sure he's in a good spot to keep the opposition on their toes. Sees lanes well and is excellent at taking pucks away and moving them up the ice for scoring chances. Offensively, he drives to the net and has a great shot. Definitely not afraid of the physical side of the game, and can play that all-important power role. Mathias From is a multidimensional buzzsaw that has the drive and skill to net wins and contribute in multiple areas of the game. - See more at: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=220307#sthash.Nx2f7SxC.dpuf

With the 171st pick the New York Islanders select

D - Kristians "The Swedish Latvian" Rubins - Vasteras (Sweden)

krubins_vik.jpg

Defenseman Kristians Rubins is from Latvia but plays for the Swedish team Vasteras, where he has spent the past two seasons. At 6’4†and 203 pounds, he already has an impressive frame and was a mainstay on the Latvian team at this past U18 WC in Switzerland, playing a big role in helping the team retain the class while collecting two assists in six games. He also had four assists in five WJC D1 games for his county’s U20 program. A defensive defenseman by trade to date, Rubins spent 10 regular season games with Vasteras’ men’s team in the Allsvenskan, Sweden’s second highest pro league. He played predominantly a top-four role for the club’s U20 squad, where he chipped in four goals, seven points, and 14 penalty minutes in 33 games.

Next GM is notificed.

Florida missed their clock and next OTC is... Florida.

Can auto-pick for the 1st Panthers pick. We'll have to wait out the clock on the 2nd. Or if people are feeling long-weekend generous, we don't auto the pick till the 2nd clock is elapsed at 11:00 PM.

Chicago and Pittsburgh have sent me lists.

Might as well give them full clock. It's a long weekend, and I'm guessing everyone is likely busy. Could even hold the clock until Monday evening if you want Soli. It's your draft.

I'd be down for waiting out the weekend. Some people are likely out in the wilderness. We've yet to see an autopick. If we finish the draft that way, that's gotta be some kind of record.

Washington selects Swedish goaltender Daniel 'Marmalade' Marmenlind with the 180th overall pick of the draft.

AP120764619422.jpg

He is the 2nd ranked European goalie available in the 2016 draft and the Capitals add to an area of organizational strength. His international performance is a small area of concern, but well worth the risk at 180th.

Most mock drafts I've seen have him going in the 3rd round, so I'm very pleased to select him even though my boy Soy was gone.

With how voodoo-ish goalies are if I was running a team i'd use a 5th or 6th round pick on a goalie pretty much every year and hope one pans out.

:caps

30: C/W Alex DeBrincat
120: D Stepan Falkovsky
145: D Vojtech Budik
150: RW Nicholas Caamano
180: G Daniel 'Marmalade' Marmenlind

With their final pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft the Edmonton Oilers select, from the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL, defenseman Dawson Davidson!

He's not big nor is he overly strong but he is able to contribute at both ends of the ice. He isn't amazing defensively but he's not necessarily bad either. He tied for the team lead in defender points with 39 despite only playing 59 games. He finished 28th in overall WHL defenseman scoring. Not bad for a 7th round pick that will likely surprise a lot of people next season.

On a different note, Edmonton Oilers 2016 3rd rounder, Wade Allison, was named the MVP of the Clark Cup (USHL playoffs) as Tri City won the championship. He's getting a lot of attention right now as a big, fast and aggressive player that isn't afraid play mean or drive the net. His play definitely carried over from his 2nd half USHL season dominance.

1(4). Pierre Luc Dubois (LW/C)
2(32). Kale Clague (D)
3(62). Adam Fox (D)
3(84). Mikhail Berdin (G)
3(87). Wade Allison (RW)
5(122). Ty Ronning (RW)
5(148). Brinson Pasichnuk (D)
6(152). Hudson Elynuik (LW/C)
7(182). Dawson Davidson (D)

The Edmonton Oilers are extremely pleased with the results of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. We selected defenders that displayed offensive dominance but also the ability to play in their own end. Our forwards selected are big and strong but also offensive leaders for their teams(not useless plugs drafted only for their size) except for Ronning that was a top 5 goal scorer in the CHL for the 2016 Draft. We also came away with a high end goaltender that in our mind is a top 3 goaltender in this draft and would be ranked even higher if his name was John Smith from Toronto.

What do you say my fellow Oiler fans? Would you be happy with Chiarelli if this is the results he got us after draft weekend? (Please no complaining about trades)

Not a fan of the Clague pick solely based on what's already in our prospect pool, but other than that I'd be pretty happy. Would prefer Dahlen, Bitten or if he somehow drops out of the first DeBrincat.

Fine with your overall draft, but as I stated before I believe Clague is an extreme reach at 32, but we obviously differ there and he does have his supporters out there. Really like your overall theory of drafting big skilled players and offensive slanted defenders.
