While its only preseason the Hawks have found themselves in a position that has rarely if ever been seen by GM Lewis. After finishing out the preseason the Hawks find themselves on top of the HFNHL standings.

It's been a long rebuild since Dryden Lewis took over the team. Recently, Lewis admitted making a mistake of trading prospects and youth for aging superstars in order to try and bring a winner to Chicago. The results didn't come and the leftover prospects either didn't pan out or took a longer than expected time to develop. By changing the focus of the team to rebuilding with youth the Hawks have gotten younger with an average age of 27 which makes them one of the youngest teams in the league.

With arguably one of the best defenses in the league anchored by Duncan Keith and Mike Green it now looks like the Offense is starting to catch up. Led by Joe Pavelski the Hawks potted 24 goals while only allowing 16 against. All the offense isn't just coming from the forwards but from defenseman Green and Keith, who are doing well on both ends of the ice.

Jose Theodore, has provided stability in goal and shall continue to mentor Jonathan Bernier until he is ready to take over as the starter in the future..

With a prospect list containing the likes of Johansen, Coyle, Saad, Scandella, Postma, Musil, Bulmer, Eakin and Tatar it looks like the rebuild will continue as the Hawks make a push for the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade.

An impressive pre-season to say the least, against a still-challenging division. You're bringing more toughness than most, and it goes without saying how much of a difference it makes having a go-to- pairing on the back end... (something the Blues may be enjoying for the last time this season, since it looks like Pronger's career may be over). It's going to be an interesting year, no question!
