The HFNHL Ducks have mortgaged their future by trading Brady Tkachuk, first round picks in 2020 and 2022, and Captain Tomas Plekanec to the Senators for John Tavares.

When reached for comment, GM Larsen said that the appeal of winning a Cup this year was too much. After a full revamp of the roster and holding some significant victories of late, the decision was made to try to make a significant addition. Tavares is just that. The only question is does he center the top line and move league leader scoring Leon Draisaitl to the wing or will they be split for some balanced scoring?

Following this trade, rumours have the Ducks willing to move out one of their D for some cap savings. But they may be willing to let a D walk on free agency.
