Any trades I list were made on or right before draft day - I didnt list who the picks came from in terms of original owners
I also didnt want to get too specific for deals so Im only listing the basis

NYR 1st - Alexis Lafreniere
LAK 2nd - Quinton Byfield
OTT 3rd - Tim Stuetzle
DET 4th - Marco Rossi
OTT 5th - Jamie Drysdale
ANA 6th - Lucas Raymond
NJD 7th - Jake Sanderson
BUF 8th - Alexander Holtz
MIN 9th - Yaroslav Askarov
NJD 10th (traded from WPG) - Cole Perfetti
NSH 11th - Jack Quinn
FLA 12th - Kaiden Guhle
DET 13th (traded from CAR) - Braden Schneider
EDM 14th - Seth Jarvis
TML 15th - Dawson Mercer
MTL 16th - Hendrix Lapierre
CHI 17th - Connor Zary
WPG 18th (traded from NJD) - Dylan Holloway
CGY 19th - Jacob Perreault
CAR 20th (traded from NJD) - Connor Zary
CBJ 21th - Lukas Reichel
NYR 22nd - Rodion Amirov
PHI 23rd - Ridly Greig
WSH 24th - Noel Gunler
COL 25th - Mavrik Bourque
OTT 26th (traded from STL) - William Wallinder
ANA 27th - Jeremie Poirier
OTT 28th - Tyson Foerster
VGK 29th - Jan Mysak
DAL 30th - John-Jason Peterka
SJS 31st - Topi Niemela

I have us with a WILD draft night! Trade Severson+18th and take on Little+10th+Stanley, also have us trading 20th to CAR for Jake Bean. I assume we use Little for a few years in the bottom-6 then buy him out if we need the cap space - his buyout money is very low at 1.5m as his deal was front-loaded

I have DET acquiring 13th from CAR to off-load one of their defenseman as well as OTT acquiring 26th from STL to take on Steen's contract with a prospect going their way

Very unlikely the Devils have so much movement but I tried to be creative and play to teams needs with the picks and trades. And before anyone kills me for trading Severson, I assume we acquire Dillon in FA as well as have Jake Bean and Ty Smith make the starting roster! This should be another rebuild year for us so im not entirely concerned if the defense is poor this year with Bean, Smith, Bahl, Stanley, and Sanderson coming up!

What are your thoughts @RememberTheName and @StevenToddIves ?! I tried to have some fun with it while making us a better future and attempt to be realistic

It's certainly fun. But I must say that if he Devils traded the #18 pick, the #20 pick and their best defenseman you'd hope they would wind up with more than the #10 pick, Jake Bean and pretty much nothing else.

Steve Kournianos released a series of podcasts on each team and their draft outlook. For NJ at 7 he suggests one of Holtz Quinn or Perfetti. He spends a fair amount of time explaining why Holtz is better than Raymond. Basically to Steve’s eyes you have to do a bunch more projecting for Raymond from smaller flashes of excellent play while Holtz is more consistent. I’m not doing it justice since it’s about a 20 minute rant but he makes a solid case. They are all in the main prospects board if you are curious. His accent alone makes it worth the listen.

I have them getting back Logan Stanley as well, very big defenseman to add to the pool of prospects

I know it'd hurt the current roster but going from only Smith and Bahl to Smith, Bahl, Sanderson, Bean, and Stanley is a massive upgrade!

I don’t want to derail this mock draft competition thread too much but the biggest problem with your trade proposal is that it’s very likely Bryan Little will never play another game in the NHL again.

A slap shot to the head perforated his eardrum at the beginning of the season and he has still not recovered from concussion symptoms and is reportedly considering retirement. He’s had neck injuries before and the eardrum injury would require him to wear extra protective ear guards which sounds bad, in the sense that there is some extra risk involved that he would require that.

He could be LTIR’d which takes the cap off, no?

I get thought that makes the deal worse for Winnipeg as they could do the same

Why are Devils trading for a player who can’t play hockey? He’s not well enough to drive a car and he signed for four more years. Little’s owed almost 20m dollars and who knows what, if any, insurance covers of that.

I don’t know why you think we will have endless cap space to piss away for four years but that’s a terrible approach to cap management. If we take a bad deal for sweeteners it should be 1-2 years tops. Putting a player on the LTIR helps teams in cap hell in certain circumstances but we aren’t there. It’s actually bad for cap flexibility.

I give up though, if you want to fantasize about trading for mammoth contracts and getting tossed backed scraps as rewards go right ahead. I can swear to you that there is zero chance the Devils will trade for Bryan Little (or the equivalent cost/term with no value). I’d bet real money on that. I have no idea exactly what the team will do but they aren’t going to set 20m dollars on fire.

LTIR takes away the cap hit and insurance covers his pay as it was a hockey-related injury

Theres no cap space lost unless he plays - and if he does hes a slightly-better Zajac making just as much

And it was an attempt to have fun with a mock draft and some made-up trades.. its really not that serious!

Sorry, I realized I got a little snippy. I don’t like the idea of lengthy commitment like that I guess.

Listened Breckett from Minnesota wild. He was working in Van before. He was saing that if Askarov will be available for their #9 they will definitely consider him as a candidate.

Very cool idea .
No way though in some mocks that Sanderson and Drysdale makes it past 7 . I know I’m being a party pooper and it’s just for fun...
That and I was doing my own mock and somehow talked myself into thinking mayyyyyybeee Byfield slips to 7..... so I’m not one to call out people for having Drysdale and Sanderson past 7.

On the App the Devils dropped an article on possible choices for each pick and past picks around the spot.

I am stoked for the 18th pick. 17-18 seems to be a sweet spot for the Devils. Smith, Parise, Sykora.

I'm leaning towards Devils picking Holtz or Quinn if Sanderson and Drysdale are gone. As good of a player Marco Rossi is, this team doesnt need a center with Hughes and Hischier, and it doesnt need another pass first winger like Raymond. If we miss out on Drysdale/Sanderson, we might as well draft the best goalscorer of the draft.
