The fact that Slavin is getting so many votes is ridiculous. I know he is great defensively, but his defensive game is very overrated and not close to enough to compensate for his lack of offense. He is not even a #1 defenceman.

Klingberg > Rielly > Slavin are my next 3. Then some combination of Chabot, Parayko, Morrissey.

Slavin's 11 points in 15 Playoff games was a similar scoring pace to Seth Jones (9 points in 10 games), John Klingberg (9 points in 13 games), Brent Burns (16 points in 20 games), Torey Krug (18 points in 24 games), and Alex Pietrangelo (19 points in 26 games). And he is a top-5 shutdown D in the NHL. "Not even a #1 defenseman" - you should try to watch some games once in a while.

A 15 game sample size is not enough to compensate for the rest of his carrer. He is not a top 5 shutdown defenceman at all, possibly a top 10 at best. And while he shuts the other team down effectively, he also shuts his team down an awful lot in comparison to a number one defenceman, with his obvious lack of skill, creativity and puck moving ability.

You analysis screams "I've never seen Slavin play". That 15 game sample size is a Playoff run to the ECF including Slavin personally shutting down Ovechkin for two straight elimination games. That is on top of being #6 among all NHL D in scoring for the Playoffs.

Slavin is one of the better transition players in the entire NHL. Both offensively and defensively. He has no trouble moving the puck. Slavin is unlikely to rack up a ton of points because he doesn't play on the #1PP. If you look at baseline Slavin has the same amount of 5v5 points (41) over the last 2 full seasons as Gostisbehere (41), Leddy (41), Dumba (41), OEL (39), Ekblad (42), Trouba (42), Krug (42), Subban (42), McAvoy (43), Doughty (43), etc. All #1 D or guys considered "offensive" D. Your argument regarding lack of of offensive production doesn't hold water.

But again, you'd realize this if you actually put some eyes on him.
