i know he's tanking and that obscures a lot of competency issues, but I remember when the Sharks hired him and I looked up his background it was a complete LOL. No higher education, no relevant work experience, barely any sort of NHL front office experience (advisor for the rangers for 1 season? what?).

i suspect a large amount of his assumed competence is because his brother Chris Grier has been GM of the Miami Dolphins since 2016.
