I love Ovechkin as much as anyone but I don't think this happens. If he gets to 800 I will be ecstatic, considering his peers very well may be 250 goals behind him.

He's likely going to hit 700 goals before his 35th birthday. He can easily squeeze out another 200 if he plays until his early 40s.

He has been so bad that they are basically going to have no choice. One of the main reasons he made the roster was the GM trying to prove he didn't make the dumbest NHL trade in years.
