To be fair, it's easier said than done. McDavid changes gear like that all the time and will lul a Dman toward him before crossing over and exploding by. That is why he's the best player in the world.

After two blatant missed hooks while on a breakaway and alone in the slot, I'd think maybe just maybe he deserves the benefit of a call for a change.

Not really? Nice goal - not taking anything away from McDavid - skilled play and a sweet move - but Reilly was in no man's land there. He was a road cone on that play.

Rookie Dman? I get it - it can happen. Gap control is a learned skill. Reilly? Supposedly elite, and a few hundred games in the league? No. At least be an obstacle.

I swear every time I watch the Leafs I never see Matthews doing anything. he gets his elite shot away here and there. Doesn't engage much, etc. I barely notice the guy. It shows you how good of a goal scorer he is.
