======================
I've had an idea. Let's decide who the greatest players in Avalanche history are.
  • You decide what "greatest" means.
  • Only judge players based on their Avalanche careers. This means no extra points for Sakic's time with the Nordiques, or Ray Bourque's time with the Bruins.
  • Poll will be open for a few days.
  • Each time you vote, suggest a player who should be added for the next round.
  • If there's no consensus on who should be added I'll just pick the next player who's played the most games.
  • Here's a list of everyone: Colorado Avalanche all-time player list at hockeydb.com

Skrastins was one of those guys who was very good in his own right but IMO made the team worse (sorry, I hate to speak ill of the dead). His EXTREMELY passive shot-blocking style convinced the rest of the defense to do the same for whatever reason and it led to the team basically acting like they were on the penalty kill every time they were in their own end.

I still maintain to this day (and no I will not let it go and F*** YOU FOREVER QUENNEVILLE) the Avs going on that stellar run from last place to the cusp of the playoffs largely happened after Skrastins went on IR and the team suddenly played super-aggressive hockey. Last game of the year, Quenneville made the idiotic move to put Skrastins back in the lineup, and sure enough, Avs blew a two-goal lead and missed the playoffs by, like, one point. Obviously I am still insanely bitter about that and will continue to be no matter how many Cups the Avs win from here on out.

Side note: I was there at Alexander Ovechkin's first game in Denver when #8 sent Skrastins through the glass, much to the cheers of all the Ovechkin bandwagoners in the stands. But the guy who impressed me the most that day was Mike Green. That guy in his prime was ridiculously good, fastest skater on the ice by far that day.
