Wonder if Yzerman takes a stab.

IIRC, wasn't making sure Vegas didn't take Koekkoek (and Dotchin) part of why Yzerman sent them Gusev, a 2nd and a 4th?
That's correct. Not his finest move in hindsight but I wonder how Yzerman values Koekkoek nowadays. It was BriseBois, not Yzerman who traded him away from Tampa.

Just because he didn't get a qualifying offer doesn't means he's not in the Hawks plans.

Year after year teams don't qualify players, only to sign them below what it would have cost to have made the minimum offer.

True but Hawks are talking about plugging in kids on D

We have

RD Ian Mitchell (Signed out of University of Denver)
LD Wyatt Kalynuk (Signed out of Wisconsin)
LD Nicolas Beaudin (2018 1st round pick, Played in Rockford)
LD Chad Krys (2017 2nd round pick , Played in Rockford)
LD Lucas Carlsson (2016 4th round pick , Played in Rockford and a little with Hawks)
LD Dennis Gilbert (2015 3rd round pick , Played for Hawks and in Rockford)

All likely to fight over two open slots now

Keith-Boqvist
?-Murphy
de Haan-?
Seabrook

de Haan can play both LD/RD depending on which kids make team

Ottawa will grab him as the new designated sitter (aka the new Goulabef). 2 year 2-way with a high AHL salary to deter waiver claims.

Book it. Dorion can’t resist locals.
