Why didn't another team pick him up then if he's so good? Red flags all over, guys mentally weak he'll bolt at the first sign of trouble and will play his own game not a team game.
Can't teams just wait for this contract to be terminated and then sign him as an FA for less? If so, that's probably why they didn't pick him up. Why waste cap space when you can wait a few weeks and save some?

They didn’t promise him anything, nobody is promised anything. He signed a contract, he couldn’t live up to it, and now it’s over. Nobody is entitled to anything, they have to maintain their effort throughout the contract.

Do you honestly believe that? Players are entirely promised things. Now, whether or not they live up to what they were promised is a different story. Although I think most can agree that Ship was never given a proper opportunity to prove his worth.

The situation look to me like constructive dismissal.

They paid the guy the big bucks but not crazy big bucks or terms. I don't think they ever planned on paying a dime of it beyond the signing bonus. The idea was probably to flip the contract before puck drop on the season, and it backfired on Vegas. (Nobody is buying.) 4 games is hardly a sample size by all account he did alright. To push the panic button this fast, and this soon had to be money related. Fair bet is Vegas has a internal budget lower than they are right now, and McPhee has a deadline to get back under budget.

Didn't disgrace himself or Russian hockey at all imo. But, as I've said in other threads, if not playing the AHL at all was a very big concern for him he should have signed with a team that had a more certain construction and had a management team with a history he could reference when trying to determine how they'd react in the circumstance that he came over and needed to adjust a little.

Instead he willingly chose a team that has a complicated roster situation in terms of having to make moves solely based on waiver eligibility, and has a management group with no history to reference.

He's good enough to be at least in a depth role on this team. He's 30, there's not a whole lot he can learn in the AHL.

It's poor cap management/Vegas fault

That’s cool, as long as you’re ok with people mocking him for it.
I'm OK with people being stupid. I get that it's beyond certain guys' understanding it's just a number which doesn't belong to Crosby, Shipachyov, Brashear or anyone else. Just 2 numbers on the back.

Yeah everyone born in 1987 not named Sidney Crosby deserves to be ridiculed should they reference their birth year on their jersey like half the NHL players do. Is discriminating against people for the numerical representation of their birth year the hip new thing in America?

Take a 30 year old KHL superstar, sign him to a 2 year deal then put him in the minors so you don’t lose players like Garrison and Reinhart. What could possibly go wrong?

Shippy won't shoot. He looked lost on the ice a few times in preseason, and while he's a playmaker and we all understand that, there were some fairly major mistakes in his game.

Wow, big surprise! Do LV have any scouts? Maybe it would be worth at least to watch the videos on YouTube, before giving a 9m contract?

Well that's the thing, nobody born in 1987 actually wears that number, probably because they know better than to invite the comparison.

So again, you can object all you like but it's a matter of fact that this is a "thing" for players Crosby's age and younger. I'm not just making this up, it's a real topic of conversation when players are given a choice of number.

GMGM dropped the ball in a big way. Could have had some of those nice future assets if he had kept Shipachyov up and getting enough icetime to adjust to NA ice.

So it's ok to represent your birth date if you're born in 81, 82, 83, etc but not in 87? Is it ok for people to wear 8 and 71 without being harassed? Malkin and Ovechkin are pretty good players too right up there with Sid. Though they're not Canadian so I guess we can't have a dumb little shrine to their numbers and bully people that wear them like moronic preschoolers. I'm guessing people born in 1997 should tread lightly too.

I'm not objecting to anything but it's important to call bigots out no matter the object of their bigotry. Especially if it's something so trivial. I'd hope you agree.

Remember, we're talking about hockey. A sport that takes pride in having the most boring athletes in North America.

Bigotry

Look, I don’t know who you think you’re arguing against right now. Players have had vanity numbers since #99 came into the league. This is not new and it’s not one person’s idea. It’s part of hockey culture and seriously, the farthest thing from some civil rights issue.

The only disgrace here is the OP

Dude came over from the KHL, didn't do that well, probably didn't get a fair shot either though - limited minutes in only a few games. Didn't want to play in the AHL, goes back to his homeland. Big deal. The NHL doesn't work out for everyone.

I think they panicked, they wanted a flippable asset but probably overpaid to get it. That made the asset too pricey to trade. Plan b was to irritate the guy until he does something that justify a suspension. (He did.) The end game is a mutual termination or they find a buyer. Either way they won't have to pay the contract.
