Mods: I hope this is considered a legit question and worthy of its own thread. If it's merged I'm going to start a Hamrlik thread with all sorts of essays.
Anyway, I'm troubled. Dale Hunter took this Greenless team last year on the fly and seemed to have an immediate impact and agenda. He was also without Backstrom for a good chunk of time. So without two of the team's best players the boat stayed afloat even after a change of course.
I'm having trouble seeing an improvement with Adam Oates since the beginning of the season. The Florida game, despite the win, was dreadful and they were completely lucky to get 2 since Florida botched a 4 on 1.
The NYR are a team I thought would get the Caps motivated into a revengeful mood. Holtby was the only one that showed up. If not for him the score would have been embarrassing.
Has Oates made progress? He does not have a quality win. Will it happen with two tries against the Devils - at home.
