The only thing I'll say to that is Glencross plays a different role on the team than Sven would. I think Ferland is more of a guy who would take Glencross' spot on the team, and I think he will also be on the team full time next year. Raymond is that top 6/9 skill player, so that's why I think Sven needs to take his spot from him.
Who says that role must be played by a LW? I think David Jones and Joe Colborne will assume much of that role and become more important next season.

I don't disagree that Sven will be competing for a spot with Ferland and of course Granlund

Yeah all good points. I just think that when you have Hudler, Raymond and Gaudreau all in your top 6, that Hartley/Treliving/Burke may have a cap on guys that don't play big.

Jones, Glencross, Colborne and Ferland all play a Flames style of game, that's why I am undecided on whether or not Glencross will be resigned or not. If he is dealt or let go, I think ideally the Flames will want another similar energy or physical type of guy to replace that role. As an example, when we lost Cammy they out and signed Raymond to fill a similar role. So if we lose Glencross, I think they would plan to put another player like Ferland in that spot. But you are definitely right, Colborne and Jones fit that role now, but they are already on the team and playing that role. Raymond is a smaller skilled player, and in an ideal world I think they would want Sven to take his spot if he earns it, and have someone like Ferland take Glencross' spot while still having Jones and Colborne in the lineup.

First coach to get an extension since Bob Johnson?

Crazy town.
It's interesting that Crisp never got an extension. But after Crisp it doesn't surprise me. It was a pile of crap after Crisp until Darryl who stepped away from being coach before he was extended.

Don't like it. He always seemed like more of an assistant, to me. The only thing new I see, is kids blowing the zone too early looking for the loooong stretch pass(teams have already picked it up). I really don't need to see another 3rd liner attempting a neutral zone drop pass either. The boys are working really hard but with a half a dozen, hungry kids and a captain that's playing out of this world, what do you expect.

Think this was a bad move and will teach the kids bad habits.

As a PP specialist, moral kind of assistant coach sure, but as the head coach , I think it's a bad move.

Bad habits? Like winning? Like working hard? Like being part of the community?

Like 2, high risk plays that are different than what we've seen for years, and easily defended against. We'll see at the end of the year.

In terms of bad habits, I was talking about one break out and blowing the zone early. Looks good on a young team but contenders don't depend on it.

A large majority of dman drafted nowadays are PMD, those classic stay at home, punishing dman are becoming fewer and fewer and are usually relegated to the bottom pairing unless they can actually really play and skate. Smooth skating dman that can pass out of their own zone are a necessity for every successful team to have in today's NHL. While Hartley may be a little extreme in his coaching style of the stretch pass, I'm seeing more of it in today's NHL and can't help but wonder if that's the new trend in the NHL.

Hartley is a very smart coach and he's playing to his teams strength. It's no different than designing your offence around Iginla, Hartley has constructed his offence around the defence because quite frankly that's where our best players play.
