According to various sources, Hanson met Friday with school president Dr. Peter Folan, at which time he was told he would not be offered a contract for the 2015-16 academic year as guidance counselor and hockey coach.
Reached late in the afternoon, Hanson said he had no comment. Dr. Folan also could not be reached for comment by the Herald.
Rumors have circulated throughout the hockey world that former NHL player Ian Moran, who was hired as assistant athletic director and freshman hockey coach at Catholic Memorial, was being groomed as the heir apparent to Hanson.
Catholic Memorial was the most decorated program in Mass. high school hockey in Hanson's 38 seasons, winning 17 state championships -- including 13 in the prestigious Super Eight tournament.
