No the person(s) who recommended Alzner got fired

The Head of Pro Scouting, Eric Crawford, is still there. He was hired in August 2016 and Alzner was signed July 2017. I don't know who else is still around or what other changes they've made to the pro scouting staff. But Crawford is still the one in charge of pro scouting.

Or what about....Habs give Seattle some compensations and (maybe retain some salary like15% or something) to pick him at the expansion draft ? Is that even possible ? :dunno:
Not sure. I know there were deals like this for past expansion drafts. I want to say Tomas Vokoun was involved in one of them. Rules may have changed since then though.

A buyout is more manageable if they wait another year. Send him to Laval again. His cap hit on a buried contract is only $3.55m. vs his actual $4,625m or the $4.195m they'll get hit with next season if they do it this year.

A buyout in 2020 is better. 2 years from now (2021) is best for a buy-out. Or, just let his contract run out. The worst option is a buyout this year.

Everyone knew this contract was awful the moment it was signed. Dumb, dumb decision by Montreal.

Wish we could LTIR him. The amount of injuries he's had is a big reason he's so awful now.

Maybe Karl gets hurt this off season, hanging with Luongo and Horton?? lol

Still can't believe Bergevin wasn't fired for the Alzner debacle...

The math on this makes no sense to buy him out. None.

His cap hit while buried in the minors is 3.55 (4.625 - 1.075(which his the cap hit you're allowed to bury)).

So assuming a buyout this year...
1 - 3.55 - 1.06 = 2.49 cap savings
2 - 3.55 - 4.194 = - .644 (an increase in cap hit)
3 - 3.55 - 1.06 = 2.49 cap savings
4-6 - 1.69 hit

Buyout next year
1 - 3.55 - 3.958 = -.408 (an increase in cap hit)
2 - 3.55 - 2.66 = .89
3-4 - 833k hit

Buyout year after that
1 - 3.55 - 2.29 = 1.26
2 - 1.166

So please explain to me how buying him out rather than sticking him in the minors or even eating half his salary to bury him on someone elses team makes sense from a cap perspective. The math doesn't seem to support it.
The issue appears to be if you want to sign an “A” list free agent you need to buy him out to obtain the additional $2.5 million

Just skin rash his butt to the LTIR. I mean considering the mileage on the guy it probably not that hard for a doctor to find something "career ending."

MTL isnt the type of team that'd do that, they like to be "PC".

This contract is very bad. Not the worst but its on the way for other options like signing free agents and signing players. I don't see why Moulson didn't fire him long ago, we had chances for Brisbois!

Degenerative hand disease, just have him try and open a pickle jar for the Doc

Trade and retain:

7th round and 20%
or
6th round and 30%
or
5th round and 40%
and so on...

I disagree. i think this year is better.

Buy out 2019 (cap hit):
2019-2020 : 1M
2020-2021 : 4M
2021-2022 : 2M
2022-2023 : 1M
2023-2024 : 1M
2024-2025 : 1M

Buy out 2020 (cap hit) :
2019-2020 (sent down in the AHL) : 3,7M
2020-2021 : 4M
2021-2022 : 2M
2022-2023 : 1M
2023-2024 : 1M
2024-2025 : 0M

Basically, you gain 2,7M$ in space this year in exchange for 1 more year at 1M$. I'm pretty sure MB does it, if needed of course.

I'll be pissed if he is bought out. After next July 1st, he'll have 2 years and just 5M in actually dollars in real money due, cap hit of 4.6 and 2.5 per year in real money. Easy to move then.

I’d do it regardless if we “need” the space or not. It’s always hard to figure when/if you are going to need it, say the trade deadline and the likes. If you aren’t going to use him, just bite the bullet and end this association.

Here is what buying Alzner out today will look like:

Buying him out today, gives Habs an extra $3.5M to work with right away. If they keep him and bury him in the minors, The Habs will only save a little over $1M.
