So, Petry & Savard just signed 4 year contracts. Unless they are traded, retire, or go on long term injury, they will be here in 3 and 4 years time. We may not re-sign them for a 5th year though.

Let's say in the best of scenarios, our defense prospects become what they are projected, what would be the Top 6?

Year 3

Guhle - Petry
Romanov - Norlinder
Harris - Savard
Stubble

Edmondson traded

Year 4
Guhle - Harris
Romanov - Norlinder
Strubble - Petry
Mailloux

Savard traded/bought out/AHL

Year 5
Guhle - Harris
Romanov - Norlinder
Strubble - Petry
Mailloux (unless he's forced the issue and Petry traded or bought out)

Those threads never pan out as expected.

I'd wager a good amount of money that most of the guys who are going to be on our D 3 to 5 years from now are not even a part of the organization as we speak.
This, who would have said 5 yrs ago that our D would be composed of Petry/Eddy/Chiarot/Savard/Romanov/Kulak and not Weber/Sergachev/Beaulieu/Juulsen/Pareryn/Lernout

If two or three of them can pan out , I will be glad.

Guhle, Harris (if he finally comes to MTL), and possibly Norlinder.

At worst, we will end up with Guhle.

Romanov has to show a more offensive side, too.

Petry, Savard and Edmundson will be there for a while.

Chiarot, Kulak and Wideman contracts are up after this year, so there will be space if any are ready.

Everyone always wants a full lineup of prospects, but neglects the prospects sometimes bomb, I'd rather have 2/3 of those guys hit and bring in another via FA

It is going to be very interesting. I'm not sure that there are any real studs in the group, but there is certainly more depth than there has been in a very long time. I hope the group can become really solid and grow together like what happened in Nashville.
