Why do the habs want Mcbackup? They have those 2 young goalies along with a rejuvenated price

Primeau is entering his first pro year. Lacouvee is a minor league goalie at this point. Lindgren shows promise, but at 25, he's not shown he's capable of being an NHL goalie every night.

Lindgren isn't trust worthy.

Primeau hasn't played pro yet.

McNiven isn't good.

Mac would allow Price to play less.

Oh true. Mcbackup can serve as a stop gap mentor for you guys and buy the younger goalies another year or so of development.

Some guy on Reddit claiming to have inside info (overheard convo) said Mac was asking for $2 million.

IMO, he's worth that if you are looking at a 50/50 split with a younger guy or first time starter that could use a steady presence/mentor

McNiven is not even 21 yet. Primeau is 19... Lindgren has been thrown to the wolves in one of the worst AHL teams for the past few years and has shown much better shape in the big league when called up. Not sure what you're talkin' about. Lindgren deserves at least a try with a decent defense in front of him. Granted, the Habs could use a cheap, older pro just in case. McBackup might be it but don't act like he's much better than any of these guys!

The way it's looking Lindgren still won't have the best defense in front of him, unless bergy makes a trade.

It's good news that we're looking to add an experienced backup for our team. Lindgren has shown some good things in the past but I'd feel better about our team if we managed to improve our depth at that position for the next year or two.

Primeau excelled at the NCAA level last year and looks pretty toolsy and talented, but goaltending is one of the hardest positions to really ''get'' and some seasoning in the AHL would be ideal for his development. McNiven was incredible at the OHL level and pretty decent for Laval last year playing for a pretty lousy defense, but he's only 21 and definitely needs more experience before he's ready for even just a platoon role at the highest level.

Of course, if McElhinney asks for too much money or too long a term, I'll be pretty content with riding out next year with a Price-Lindgren tandem.

lol i don't get it, Lindgren has been fine as a backup.

He played one NHL game last year as a backup, battled injuries, and struggled in the AHL when he was healthy enough to play.

There is not much basis to say for sure that Lindgren would be a decent backup.
